Yoga. As a parent, we need a little “me” time. Yoga is the perfect way to relax, meditate, stretch, meet other people, and have fun. We are fortunate to have many opportunities to enjoy free yoga classes or low-cost outdoor yoga spots in Des Moines. Whether you are a curious beginner or an advanced yogi there is something for everyone!

Yoga in the Park – Ankeny

Bring a yoga mat and a friend to enjoy an hour of yoga with professional instructors. Yoga in the Park will be held at the Ankeny Bandshell in Wagner Park on Saturdays beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. From 8 to 9 a.m., families of all ages and skill levels are welcome at this free community event. Take a look at the list of instructors here.

Outdoor Yoga Summer Series – Clive

Every Wednesday at 6 p.m. beginning June 5 through August 8

Join Clive Parks & Recreation for this free community yoga class at beautiful Campbell Park. For more information, contact Austin at atasler@cityofclive.com. All ages Campbell Park (location change due to Greenbelt Landing project construction). No registration is required.

All performances take place at 8 AM on Cowles Commons. FREE!

Yoga in the Park – Des Moines

Every Saturday at 9 a.m. at Gray’s Lake Park (No class 6/8)

Start your Saturday with free yoga at Gray’s Lake. Join us every week from June 1 – September 28 for free classes led by volunteers. These classes are perfect for all skill levels from beginner to advanced yogi. Classes will not be held in the event of rain.

Yoga in the Park – Indianola

Every Saturday, June – September at 9 a.m. This program is free for adults only. Located at Buxton Park.

Yoga in the Park – Waukee

Join local, certified yoga instructors from SPENGA-Waukee for Yoga in the Park this summer. Participants 12 years old and older are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, towel, water bottle, and $5 per person to Windfield Park on the second and fourth Saturdays of June-September.

Yoga with Nature at The Brenton Arboretum

Embrace tranquility with Yoga in Nature at The Brenton Arboretum. Join Dennis Kelly, founder of Yoga in the Park, every Wednesday for a rejuvenating session of yoga amidst nature. Feel the grounding energy of the nearby labyrinth as you reconnect your mind and body with the soothing sounds of the outdoors. This gentle yoga session is open to all ages and abilities, and it’s completely free!

This class meets every Wednesday, May through September from Noon to 1 p.m.

Yoga on the Lawn – West Des Moines

Get your Sunday off to a great start with some Yoga on the Lawn! This FREE program put on by the West Des Moines Parks & Recreation Department is a great introduction to yoga for the beginner and offers new challenges for seasoned yogis. Bring a water bottle and yoga mat and enjoy. Open to all.

  1. Hi! I have filled out the online form for submitting my event a couple of times now for my kids/family yoga events. They haven’t been included yet in your newsletters. Is there something else special that I need to do to get my event shared?
