Enjoy your favorite movie outdoors in Des Moines, Iowa. Bring blankets, chairs, snacks, and drinks. The perfect social distancing activity this summer! All movies begin at dusk which is around 8:45 p.m. (unless noted). Dress the kids up in their comfy pajamas as well. Take a look at all the places you can catch an outdoor movie in Des Moines this summer.

Clive Drive-In

Clive Parks and Recreation is hosting multiple Drive-in Movie Nights in the Clive Aquatic Center parking lot! The parking lot opens at 7 pm. The movies start at 7:30 pm. The dates and movies currently listed are Spring. We will update when we see the Summer dates released. $10 per car. Register here.

Free Flicks – Des Moines

Free Flicks is a Thursday night series in July of outdoor movies in neighborhood parks. The films will be shown on a 25-foot portable screen and begin after sunset. Admission is free for all. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Specific movies are listed here.

July 1 – Witmer Park

July 8 – Fourmile Community Rec Center

July 15 – Greenwood Park/Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden

July 22 – Weeks Middle School Park

July 29 – Riverview Park

Moonlit Movies – West Des Moines

Join WDM Parks & Rec Fridays in June and July for a free outdoor movie series. Beginning an hour prior to the movie, enjoy activities related to the show and grab a bite to eat from a food truck. Located at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater.

June 4 at 8:45 pm: Toy Story 4

June 11 at 8:45 pm: The Princess and the Frog

June 18 at 9:00 pm: The Karate Kid

July 8 at 9:00 pm: Mary Poppins Returns

Movie Under the Stars – Ankeny

Movies Under the Stars are held Friday nights at the Bandshell at Wagner Park. Bring a blanket and enjoy the show! Movies start at dusk.

Movies in the Park – Granger

Granger Parks and Recreation is excited to present Free Movies in the Park. Outdoor movies will be showing at Centennial Park. The film will be shown on a portable screen and will begin at sunset. Admission is free, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged..

Movies in the Park – Waukee

Enjoy Hollywood’s biggest hits under the stars with Movies in the Park sponsored by NCMIC! Movies in the Park are FREE and provides an abundance of fun. Showtime is at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.) in Centennial Park. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and refreshments, and get ready to make memories with family and friends.

June 4: Aladdin

July 3: Jumanji: The Next Level

August 13: Black Panther

Starlight Cinema – Indianola

Located at Memorial Park at the amphitheater. Concessions will be available. Guests will need to bring their own seating and hand sanitizer. Restrooms are available, but drinking fountains are turned off.

Valle Drive-In – Newton, Iowa

You can make a small little trip the Valley Drive-In. There is an admission. The kiddos may enjoy a true drive-in movie adventure.
