The weather is warming up and there are several chances to enjoy outdoor storytime in Des Moines this Summer. Bring a blanket, grab lunch, and enjoy story time outdoors. All of these dates and times are also listed on our event calendar.

Noon to 1 p.m. 

Raccoon River Lodge

Join the West Des Moines Parks and Recreation staff for an hour of story power! Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy as our Naturalist shares nature books, stories, and games.



11 to 11:45 a.m. 

There is no admission to attend the story time and no registration required. Begins June 12 – August 7.

Come experience your community park and join the West Des Moines Parks and Recreation staff for a story and a craft. Bring a blanket and a friend!

Indianola Veteran’s Memorial Aquatic Center

Start your Saturday morning off with some quality time with your kiddo(s)! This free program will run concurrently with our standard “Tot Splash Time”, which begins at 10:30 am. We’ll let the kids burn off some steam from 10:30 – 10:45 am, story time will be from 10:45 – 11:15 am, and then Tot Splash Time will resume from 11:15 – 11:50 am. Stick around for the fun!

Get ready to make waves in the zero-depth pool with stories, songs, and dance
splashes with library and aquatic center staff! Please note that adults must be in the water with their children at all times. If you would like to stay and enjoy the pool after the program you will be able to purchase a daily admission pass. Rain or shine unless thunder and lightning. Story Times will be offered outdoors at various parks in Ankeny this summer! In the event of rain, story time will be held at the library in the meeting room.

Join the Clive library and parks and recreation staff for story time adventures in your own backyard. They will be visiting neighborhood parks for a morning filled with stories, music, and recreational activities. Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch and enjoy a morning outdoors. Stories in the Park program will be different at each park, so please join us throughout the summer for fun in the sun!

Monday’s at 10 a.m.

Join the Library and Parks Departments for a special all-ages storytime followed by outdoor play. Walk to your local playground, or discover a new neighborhood park. A limited selection of books will be available for checkout. Weather Permitting.  Visit Parks Department for park information.
