Ironwood Park {Pirate Ship Park} in Altoona, Iowa
Ironwood Park in Altoona, IA is affectionately known to many as the Pirate Ship Park. It is a well-loved destination for families. This park has two large different park features. The eye-catching pirate ship, the 2-5-year-old playground structure, is inviting to all ages. Kids love pretending to walk the plank, sailing the ship through the deep sea and spotting kids climbing on the large swimming dragon.
The second structure, a 5-12 year old playground, is a large beach themed playground. My kids loved playing tag and finding all the different ways they could climb up and come down the structure. This structure is perfect for slide-loving kids!

Located Near Ironwood Park
Since Ironwood can be a popular destination for camps, if I found myself at this park when a camp arrived, I would recommend checking out Meacham Place Park, 6010 East Oakwood Dr in Pleasant Hill. It is another great water free park within ten minutes of Ironwood that is lesser known but still an awesome park!
My family also loves a good classic Dairy Queen. We are fans of the Dairy Queen that is a five minute drive from Ironwood Park at 736 8th St SE.
We also love checking out Bass Pro Shops, 1000 Bass Pro Dr, whenever we are in Altoona. My kids love walking around to see all the different animals on display throughout the store and looking at the aquarium.
