Bass Pro Shop – A Kid Destination?

Bass Pro Shop in Altoona probably isn’t the first destination that pops in your head when you think of entertaining the kiddos, but if you haven’t been there yet, add it to your list of places to go.

Why would I take the kids to a hunting and fishing store?  Don’t let the name fool you, there’s more to Bass Pro Shop than just hunting and fishing gear.  Yes, they do have plenty of that, but you will be amazed by some of the other cool things you will see.  The first thing you need to check out is the 30,000 gallon fresh water aquarium stocked with over 400 fish native to the Midwest.  The kids will love this and it can be used as an educational tool too!  (If you want to see the fish being fed visit on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday at 3pm)  In the same area as the aquarium (and all throughout the store) you will find wildlife mounts such as deer, bears and mountain lions that give your children a chance to see these animals up close in a safe environment.

Now it’s time to check out the Boats and ATVs.  The kids can climb up on them and pretend they are driving or sailing around the world and believe me, from personal experience you might have to pry them off because they won’t want to leave.  You could always tell them that it’s time to go look at the toys!  Yes, Bass Pro has a cool section of toys for the kids.  You will find outdoor themed toys that you don’t normally see at other local toy shops.

So by this point in your journey you might be getting a little tired or hungry.  Oh look, they have their own restaurant right there.  Not just a restaurant, but a restaurant with a 12 bowling lanes inside of it (glow in the dark). A nautical themed grill, Uncle Buck’s Fish Bowl and Grill serves burgers, seafood, sandwiches and has bowling available as well (Yes, they have Mac and Cheese for those picky eaters).

Don’t forget on your way out to grab a piece of fudge by the main entrance.  If you don’t like fudge they have plenty of other candy options.  Oh and if you hit the Bass Pro Shop on certain Holidays they have a carousal,  free pictures (Santa, Easter Bunny) and free kids crafts.

Does all this sound pretty good?  What are you waiting for?  Head there today! Driving Directions
