Des Moines Parent Spotlight: Katie Crow

It truly is a small world. Katie Crow and I went to high school together! Katie has always been one of the brightest, happiest people I have known. She always has a smile on her face and loves to uplift and support women on whatever journey they may be on. Learn more about Katie, her uplifting business, and her number one parenting advice.

Give us a little background on your family and personal life! How many kids do you have? Have you lived in Des Moines all your life?

My family moved to West Des Moines when I was 5, so the Des Moines Metro has been the only home I’ve ever known. I have lived in Grimes for 13 years, and I love it! I have 3 daughters, Grace age 12, Lily age 10, and May age 6. My husband, Bryan, and I will have been married for 11 years this fall. Outside of work, I love to listen to music, enjoy new experiences with family and friends, and I love being a coffee and wine connoisseur.

What is your business, and what do you do?

Uplift Fitness Studio. Uplift is a woman-focused and woman inspired fitness studio that offers a variety of group fitness classes.

Why did you become a small business owner?

Oh my gosh! That’s really hard to answer. I think what it comes down to is a DREAM! A dream that you feel destined for and a desire to pursue it.

Where is your favorite place to take your children to play indoors?

Science Center, State Historical Museum, trampoline parks,  and local bakeries.

Where is your favorite place to take your children to play outdoors?

Our backyard! And when we leave home, my kids love to explore many different parks in our area including Jester Park and Big Creek.

Parent’s day/night out. Describe your perfect parent only day/night out in Des Moines.

When we get out without kids, we typically head downtown. If Bryan asked if I wanted to go out tonight, I would head to Malo for dinner and Noce for wine and music.

What are some tips on juggling parenthood, working, and personal life?

It’s a BLEND. I used to think it was a balance, but it’s nearly impossible to balance everything in life at once. I can’t be mom and business owner separately, and that’s OKAY! It’s okay to let some things blend when it’s needed. Yes, sometimes I sit on the park bench and work while my kids are playing. It’s a blend.

What is your number one parenting tip?

Don’t compare yourself to other parents!
