Why You Should Take a Childbirth Class

As I was preparing for baby number three I was watching one of my favorite shows at the time called The Baby Story (it was on TLC). A couple of episodes had moms using hypnobirthing techniques for their births. They were so calm and peaceful and I just wanted to see if that kind of birth was possible. I then began my search looking for someone to teach me the techniques. I was lucky enough to find a nurse in the area who taught hypnobirthing techniques. It was just myself, my husband, and her. I felt so blessed that she was willing to teach us. I practiced the techniques every day with cd’s (yes I’m that old) that she made for me. When it came time for my third (and fourth) birth I would describe them as intense but not painful, much more enjoyable experiences. In the past I had used what I call the power through method and with my last two births I felt more confident and in control.

Now fast forward to 2017, I had been a birth doula for for years and realized there weren’t any active hypnobirthing classes in the area. We know when moms are more relaxed and confident that they can have less discomfort at birth. I found Hypnobabies, which teaches hypnobirthing techniques, and LOVED the curriculum! For the past seven years, I have been teaching parents hypnobirthing techniques. The techniques taught through Hypnobabies teach a deeper level of self-hypnosis and deep relaxation with the goal of an easier, more comfortable birth experience. It also can be very beneficial for moms who have fear or anxiety around birth.

People always ask me why take a childbirth class? Let me tell you!

It is a great opportunity to meet new parents in the same stage as you. Half of my students are first-time parents and the other half are not.
For most, having a baby is the first big “medical” event of their lives. It is so important to learn about your body, about physiological birth, and your new baby. Informed medical consent is so important and it’s important to know what is “normal” at birth. YOUR body was made to birth YOUR baby. Building knowledge and confidence around birth can make your birth experience more enjoyable. In Hypnobabies, we also have a LOT of information for birth partners on how to prepare for their partner’s birth and how to be an active support and encouragement.
When taking an in-person childbirth class you have access to a birth expert to ask all the questions. Answers are research and evidence-based and are not influenced by any hospital or provider.
