
Valentine Events in Des Moines 2021
It is that time of year to grab your little one and celebrate Valentine’s Day. There may not be many Valentine dances this year, but there are still some fun virtual and/or social distancing friendly events happening in Des Moines, Iowa. Take a look at the list below. Valentine’s Day Cards
January 4 – February 12
Urbandale Parks & Recreation
Themed kits come with everything you will need to make two beautiful cards to share with a loved one. Try their holiday cards to spread good tidings and season’s greetings, make Valentine’s card and send it to your special someone, or send a Birthday card to celebrate their special day.
To-Go Adult Craft Kit: Paper Valentine
January 23
10 to 11 a.m.
Stop by Johnston Public Library to pick up a Take-Home Adult Crafting Kit — this month featuring the supplies to make a homemade paper valentine. All materials are included in the kit EXCEPT glue. To-Go Adult Craft Kits are available for contactless curbside pick-up while supplies last. These kits will go fast and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary.
Hidden Hearts Hike
February 8 – 21
McVay Nature Trail
Join WCCB and Indianola Parks and Recreation for a hike-when-you-please event. Hike along the McVay Trail in Indianola and see if you can find 50 hidden hearts. The hearts are all different sizes and colors. Please leave the hearts in the location that you find them for others to enjoy. There will be a sign at each end of the trail to show where it starts and finishes. This event is geared for the whole family. The hearts will be along the trail from February 8-21, 2020. Valentine’s Day Cookie Kit
February 11
8 a.m. to Noon
Urbandale Parks & Recreation will bring cookies to you! In each kit, there will be 10 cookies and frosting for you to design the perfect holiday treat! They will deliver them “contact-free” to your doorstep.
** Delivery is limited to LESS than 5.0 miles from Urbandale City Hall (3600 86th Street).
Valentine’s Day Craft Kit
February 12
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Crafts will be geared towards 3-9-year-olds. The kit will include ingredients to make a Valentine’s Day snack plus a variety of other crafts with instructions. Participants will need access to glue and scissors at home to complete a few projects. Parks & Recreation staff will deliver your craft kit directly to your doorstep, weather permitting. *Delivery only available to Ankeny residents.
Valentine’s Hike + Craft
February 13
1 to 2 p.m.
Greenwood Park, Des Moines
Bring your child to this special hike and craft at Greenwood Park! You will meet together for a group hike, hunting for hidden hearts along the trail. Then children will choose from a selection of crafts to make special gifts for their loved ones! Crafts will range in difficulty making it an event for all ages, even your littlest explorers.
$15 for children ages 2 and up, under 2 are welcome to join for free. Register here.
Tea at the Castle – Virtual
February 13
10 to 11:45 a.m.
The virtual Tea at the Castle is back! And this time, in honor of Valentine’s Day, you will be celebrating Carl and Edith Weeks’ love story, the original owners of Salisbury House! Guests will pick up their tea kits at the Salisbury House between 10:00 am and Noon on the day of the event. Kits include:
- Traditional afternoon tea snacks
- Two varieties of tea
- Local honey
- Fresh flowers

She wants families to feel confident to reach out and ask for help and advice to get pointed in the right direction. She enjoys traveling and exploring with her two children in tow!
