Trunk or Treat in Des Moines 2022

If you have younger children, you may be looking for some other options besides Beggars’ Night. Trunk or Treat is another wonderful Halloween event that is a family-friendly free event. Des Moines area businesses and organizations may offer a costume contest, scavenger hunt, live music, food, science experiments, fun games, and more which make it a fun event for all ages! Below is a list of Trunk or Treat events in Des Moines at local churches and businesses. Grab your costumes and have a fun night.

Grimes Fall Festival Candy Crawl

October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grimes South Sports Complex

Mark your calendars for October 8th! The City of Grimes and Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa will celebrate the season with the Fall Festival. Enjoy plenty of candy, food trucks, a kid zone, demonstrations, great vendors, and activities for all ages on Saturday, October 8th from 10 am – 2 pm at the South Sports Complex. This family-friendly event will offer a sensory-friendly time from 10 – 10:30 am. Costumes are encouraged!

Carfest presents 4th Annual Trunk or Treat

October 15 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Ankeny Market & Pavillion

Carfest and Upcountry Fab are putting on our 4th Annual trunk or treat. Bring the kids with their costumes. Plenty of fun and candy for all the kids.

Uptown Trunk or Treat

October 20 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Uptown Ankeny

Join Uptown, community businesses, and organizations for our annual trunk-or-treat in Uptown Ankeny! 

Clive Chamber Business Trick or Treat

October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Clive Aquatic Center

Join us for our First Annual Business Trick or Treat on Thursday, October 20th from 5 to 7 pm at Greenbelt Landing (the area around the Clive Aquatic Center). All ghosts and goblins are invited to wear costumes and collect yummy treats from local businesses. First, 500 will receive a trick-or-treat bag. Enjoy an evening of free trick or treating and meet some of the amazing businesses right here in our community!

ICYF Trunk or Treat

October 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Indianola Middle School Football Field

Put on your Halloween costumes and join ICYF along with community businesses/organizations for a night of Halloween fun! Please bring items to benefit the Helping Hand.

Bondu Spooktacular

October 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Bondurant City Park

There will be many games, activities, and CANDY for the little ones. This is a fun, safe Trick-or-Treat opportunity.

Truck Or Treat at the Waukee Family YMCA

October 22 from 9 a.m. to Noon

Waukee Family YMCA

Free, family-friendly fun for the whole community – everyone is welcome! Truck-or-Treat is an open house-style event with opportunities to take a peek, touch, and explore the local community and emergency vehicles! Children will have an opportunity to trick-or-treat through the event. Costumes are encouraged. Food trucks will be available for purchase.

Trunk or Treat is a community outreach event where our church will decorate our vehicles, pass out candy, offer warm drinks, and connect with families!

Come join Stuff Etc. for their 2nd annual Trunk or Treat event happening at Stuff Etc Ankeny. Come see their creative trunks and score some awesome candy.

Trick or Treat Around the Lake

October 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Copper Creek Lake; 4390 E University Ave, Pleasant Hill

Come Trick or Treat Around the Lake with your friends, family, and kids. Businesses from the chamber will be set up with candy and goodies! Participation for businesses can be completed by emailing director@pleasanthillchamber.org.

2nd Annual Trunk or Treat

October 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Pleasant Hill Diner

Join us for our 2nd annual trunk or treat! we will have prizes for the best-decorated trunks for our participants. Lots of fun for the kids. A face painter, games, and a candy apple station(while supplies last)! Come join us for a night of Spooktacular fun!

October 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Altoona Civic Plaza; 360 Center Pl, Altoona, IA 50009

Join us for the annual Business Trick or Treat on Wednesday, October 26th from 5-7 pm in and around Civic Plaza!

Trick-or-Treat with First Responders

October 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Fire Station 38 10225 NW 62nd Ave., Johnston

Join community members and trick-or-treat with first responders on Wednesday, October 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Fire station 38, 10225 NW 62nd Avenue. The Police and Fire Departments will be handing out treats from their squad cars and fire trucks and will also talk about “safety” when going out on Beggars’ Night.

We encourage your children to wear their Halloween costumes. 

This is a great opportunity for families to get to know our Police Officers and Firefighters/EMS members.

After you are finished at the fire station, we encourage you to make your way over to the Bridge Church. They will have treats and activities available for the kids, including inflatables, pumpkin painting, and more!

“Haunted” Hike

October 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Covenant Presbyterian Church; 1025 28th Street, West Des Moines

Kids and their families are invited to trick or treat through our church building! (Think indoor Trunk or Treat.) Free to attend. For even more frights, check out our youth group’s “haunted” house in the church garage! Plan to park on the north side of the building and enter through the north door marked “old sanctuary”. Costumes are encouraged for ALL ages.

Ames United Methodist Church

Join us for an evening of fun, games, and of course…Trunk or Treating! All are welcome! All events will take place outdoors on the south and west sides of the church.

The Bridge in Johnston

This event is free, and the entire community is encouraged to enjoy Trunk or Treating in our parking lot. Inflatables and crafts will also be a part of the fun. The Johnston police and fire departments will be handing out treats from their squad cars and fire trucks next door at the fire station. Wear your favorite costume, come for free candy, and stay for family fun! An adult must accompany children. In inclement weather, they will bring the activities inside! 

Urbandale Police Department’s Trunk or Treat

October 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Urbandale Police Department

The Urbandale Police & Public Library present Trunk or Treat 2022! A FREE, fun, and family-friendly event. Trick or Treat through the parking lot of the Urbandale Police Department and take the Halloween Trail to the Library for more fun and games!

October 27 at 4 p.m.

Bring the whole family for an evening of FREE family fun with a warm and safe trick-or-treating experience! Bring your kids in costumes and fill a bag with treats and treasures!

Halloween Trick or Treat

October 27 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Outlets of Des Moines

The annual Halloween event will be held on the concourse throughout the center and is free and open to the public. Custom Dreamz Car Club will feature special “trunk” candy giveaways for trick-or-treaters alongside Outlets of Des Moines’ retailers providing complimentary treats. Families with children 12 years and under are encouraged to come in costume to collect goodies throughout the center (First come, first served. While supplies last.). Each participating child is asked to bring personal hygiene items and/or canned foods for donation to the Caring Hands Outreach Center. All children must be accompanied by an adult and should begin at the Food Pavilion to grab their Halloween bags and drop off their donations.

WDM Open Bible

Join us for this free event! From 3 to 5 pm, come celebrate trunk or treating in West Des Moines. Located in the back parking lot of WDM OBC, you will find decorated trunks, games, candy, toys, and a fun fall Photo Booth for the whole family!

Kinship is hosting its first-ever Trunk or Treat! Don’t know what that is? Think of trunk or treat as a Halloween tailgate party. Instead of kids going door-to-door to get candy, they walk through a parking lot and go trunk-to-trunk.

This will be a safe and friendly event for everyone, including kids and dogs. They will block off our entire parking lot so there are no moving cars.

They will have food trucks, a bounce house, photo ops, games, and activities for everyone!

The City of Newton and Newton Main Street are hosting a FUN, FREE, family-friendly event for all Halloween lovers! Stroll through Maytag Park wearing your costumes and enjoy treats, fun photo ops, a lighted display, and so much more.
