Trunk or Treat in Des Moines 2021

If you have younger children, you may be looking for some other options besides Beggars’ Night. Trunk or Treat is another wonderful Halloween event that is a family-friendly free event. Des Moines area businesses and organizations may offer a costume contest, scavenger hunt, live music,ย food, science experiments, fun games, and more which make it a fun event for all ages! Below is a list of Trunk or Treat events in Des Moines at local churches and businesses. Grab your costumes and have a fun night.

Grimes Fall Festival

October 16

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grimes South Sports Complex

There will be Polk County Sheriffโ€™s candy crawl, food trucks, vendors, booths, and loads of candy!

2021 Business Trick or Treat

October 21

5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Altoona Civic Plaza; 360 Center Pl, Altoona, IA 50009

Join us for the 2021 Business Trick or Treat that is happening on Thursday, October 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm in and around Civic Plaza! There will be 1 entrance and 1 exit for the event.

October 23

5 to 7 p.m.

The Salvation Army Des Moines Temple; 1330 6th Ave, Des Moines

Looking for a safe place for kids to trick or treat? Bring them out for games, free hot dogs, and they can go from truck to trunk trick or treating for candy. Drinks will also be available. Kid and adult costume contests so come dressed to win in your favorite costume!

Halloween Trunk-or-Treat! In Des Moines

Our Des Moines Facility is hosting Trunk-Or-Treat! This event is FREE to the public. We encourage you to stop by with your costumes, tour the trunks and vote for the best trunk!

Lutheran Church of Hope – West Des Moines; 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines

Children in grades 6 and younger are invited to get dressed in their Halloween costumes in the Hope parking lot for a safe and fun afternoon of trick-or-treating!

Trick or Treat Around the Lake

October 26

5 to 7 p.m.

Copper Creek Lake; 4390 E University Ave, Pleasant Hill

Our annual trick or treating event will be held on October 26th, 5-7 pm at Copper Creek Lake Park. Folks are encouraged to use all three entrances to the lake for parking and social distance purposes. There will be an opportunity to vote on your favorite business booth. A cash prize will be given to the winning booth.

Social distancing measures will be taken for both business booths & trick or treaters. We encourage families to take the appropriate measures recommended by the CDC for wearing a face mask at the event.

Trunk or Treaters are invited to spend the evening going from trunk to trunk, collecting candy from volunteers who have decorated their vehicles to serve as a backdrop for this Spooktacular event!

Join us at St. Mark Lutheran Church for a family-friendly Trunk or Treat.  Enjoy the many decorated trunks and games on the north end of our parking lot.  All participants, young and old, are encouraged to dress up.

Trick – or – Treat with First Responders

October 27

5:30 to 7 p.m.

Fire Station 38 10225 NW 62nd Ave., Johnston

Join community members and trick-or-treat with first responders on Wednesday, October 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Fire station 38, 10225 NW 62nd Avenue. The Police and Fire Departments will be handing out treats from their squad cars and fire trucks and will also talk about “safety” when going out on Beggars’ Night.

We encourage the children to wear their Halloween costumes. The Police and Fire Chiefs will be voting on the best-dressed child! Photos will be taken at the event and posted on our Facebook with the winners after the Chiefs cast their vote. This is a great opportunity for families to get to know our Police Officers and Firefighters/EMS members. We encourage you to come with questions for them and most of all, have a great time!

Trunk or Treat

Covenant Presbyterian Church; 1025 28th Street, West Des Moines

Join us in the east parking lot on the evening of October 27 from 6:30-7:30 PM for trick or treating Trunk-or-Treat style! Kids are encouraged to dress in costume for the event. All are welcome, no RSVP is needed.

Join the Urbandale Police Department for this fun, not spooky, family-friendly Trunk or Treat Event!
Attendees are encouraged to park at Walker-Johnston Park and follow the candy trail to the front lot of our Police Department.

Join us for a FANG-tastically fun community celebration!

You stay in the safety of your vehicle to drive-thru and view all of our amazing trunks from community partners and church members! Don’t forget to visit our Facebook page to vote for your favorite trunk! The winner will be given a gift card to a local business. Treats bags will be handed out at the exit this year for increased safety. We will also be handing out a free meal of hot dogs, chips, and water while supplies last!
