Des Moines Fall Festivals 2019

The leaves will begin changing colors and temperatures will be dropping, which means fall it is time for some fall festivities. I  have created a list of Fall Festivals in the Des Moines area. If I am missing your favorite festival please let me know.

September

Pufferbilly Days 

September 6-8

Boone, Iowa

This three-day community, fall festival fills the streets with tons of awesome events and entertainment. Kids games, carnival, fireworks show, pie-eating contests, and much more.

Apple Festival at Penoach Winery 

September 21

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Horse and wagon rides, face painting and balloon animals, vendors featuring a variety of crafts, food, and produce, including Dallas County Orchard, lunch from Wood Fire Ferinheit Pizza. Hot apple wine by the cup.

Beaverdale Fall Festival 

September 20-21

Celebrate with Beaverdale! The two days will be filled with a dog parade, carnival, car night, horse rides, kids zone, talent show, arts, and crafts market and more. A classic and favorite Fall Festival in Des Moines.

World Food & Music Festival

September 20-22

The 2019 festival features Cuisine from Around the World. Live entertainment, cooking demonstrations. $1 tastes/all entrees $6 or less. Free to attend.

Applefest

September 28

9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Living History Farms

Celebrate the arrival of Fall in the 1875 town of Walnut Hill during the annual Applefest! Try your hand at stirring the copper kettle of apple butter, take your turn cranking the cider press, and try some tasty apple fritters. Family fun also includes apple bowling, cooking demonstrations, bobbing for apples, and assisting our historic interpreters as they plan for the winter ahead. Purchase apples and other goodies from Iowa Orchard in the Visitor Center. Event activities are included in regular admission to Living History Farms.

Apple & Pumpkin Fest at Will’s Family Orchard 

Saturday, September 21 (9 – 6 p.m.) & Sunday, September 22 (Noon – 6 p.m.)

Saturday, September 28 (9 – 6 p.m.) & Sunday, September 29 (Noon – 6 p.m.)

Fresh, handmade foods, such as apple cider donuts, caramel apples, Queens apple dessert & sliced apple pie & more. There is no admission fee to visit the store. Live music and kids activities. For $7 + tax (kids 2 and under are free!) you will be able to take part in all of the fall fun the farm has to offer: a corn maze, hay wagon rides, expanded kids play area (giant corn box, kiddie hay bale maze & duck races), toss games. Plus, our friendly barnyard animals will be there to greet you.

Illumifest at WDM City School Campus

September 21

West Des Moines City Hall 

4 to 9 p.m. 

Inflatables & Games, food vendors, free hot air balloon rides, free lantern making, “Royal Promenade” around the Pond with Little Princess Parties (must register), a free outdoor movie — Aladdin (2019), fireworks and much, much MORE!

Fall Family Fun Fest

September 28

1 to 4 p.m.

Union Park

A fun-filled day is planned for the whole family including an inflatable obstacle course, a slide and bounce house, a DJ, a face painter, the Police SWAT vehicle and K-9 dog, a fire truck, the Rocket slide and Heritage Carousel (Rides 50¢/person).

Special activities start at 1 p.m. with a Trikathalon for 8 years old and under – ride, run, splash. the cost is 10 dollars to participate.

October

Party in the Park – Free Fall Festival

October 12

4 p.m.

Walker-Johnston Park

Fun for the whole family, and best of all, it’s free! Parking is limited, trying ride-sharing or biking to the event!

Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County 

October 12-13

Help celebrate the bridges. Crafts, foods, activities, entertainment, antiques, and guided tours of the famous covered bridges. This festival is for everyone.

Deal’s Orchard Fall Festival

October 12-13

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Live entertainment, apple pies, and dumplings, corn pit, animals, jumping pillow, horse-drawn hayrides, pumpkin patch, paint pumpkins, spin art, giant slides, and so much more.
