KOA Campground Review: Newton, Iowa
Since we began camping in 2020 we have experienced all sorts of campgrounds. Some are amazing and some are not so great. I have learned that finding a great campground that fits your needs (especially with children) is important so I have decided to begin sharing details of our experiences when camping. We take Poppy (our travel camper) on many adventures. Make sure you follow along! To start this fun series I am reviewing a campground not too far from our home, KOA Newton, Iowa Campground.
Location
Our family made a huge upgrade this year from a popup camper to a travel camper. Before we started on any distant adventures we wanted to give our new and approved Poppy a test close to home, so we headed to KOA Newton, Iowa Campground is also known as Des Moines East KOA.
The New, Iowa KOA is one many have probably seen if you have traveled west coming from the east side of the state on Interstate 80. You can see it right off the interstate! This campground is located just 30 miles east of Des Moines, Iowa, and is the perfect mid-way stop if you are traveling a long distance. It is easy on and off of I-80 with shopping within 1/2 mile of the campground.

Attractions Nearby
The weekend we stayed at the KOA Newton, Iowa Campground it was the annual Tulip Time in Pella, Iowa which is located about 25 miles from the campground. In addition, the Valle Drive-In Theatre is just a few miles away and is one of the few outdoor theatres left in Iowa. If you are looking for an adventure, you are just a few miles away from Adventureland Amusement Park. Take a look at all of our tips and tricks before you go!
Overall Thoughts
Overall this was the perfect practice stop with our new upgrade. The staff was very nice and helpful and the bathrooms were very clean! A couple of takeaways is that you can hear the interstate due to being so close. Personally, it did not bother me much. Also, the spots were very close together. If you do book at this campground and want a bit more space select a back-in or the one with the patio.
