Burke Park and Sprayground in Des Moines, Iowa
Burke Park has a brand new sprayground added! This whimsical sprayground is a perfect pair with the already existing playground. This small and compact playground is perfect for the kids who like to take risks. Multiple hand holds and cut outs are placed around the structure to encourage kids to use their equipment and bodies in unique ways.
One of my kids favorite auxiliary features at a playground is at Burke Park–the Supernova. This large rotating ring invites kids to play in so many different ways. It is fun to watch all the ways they play on it (and I’ve been known to play on it and fall off it to the amusement of my children.) The playground area has toddler and standard swings and a standing spinner.
Burke Park also has a multi use court. This new free standing goal offers a place for both soccer, basketball and hockey.

Sprayground
Burke Park new sprayground that is inspired by John Burke’s, the park’s namesake, “Rainbow” division of WWI. The rainbow also echoes the entrance art at the nearby Des Moines Botanical Gardens. This free sprayground has multiple sprayers packed into a small area. The stone seating around the sprayground is a fun added element and perfect place for parents to watch from.
Burke Park Sprayground is open from May 1st to Sept 30th from 9am to 8pm like the rest of Des Moines Parks and Rec Spraygrounds. The sprayground is turned on by pressing a trigger button.
