Teen Activities in Des Moines

Do you have a tween or a teenager? One of the most common things I hear from parents is a list of activities and/or programs specifically geared towards teens. I have created this guide for teen activities in Des Moines. Have something to add? Please let me know. Altoona

Altoona Public Library 

700 8th Street SW, Altoona 

Every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. Out of the Box is offered. This is a fun game night for teens. Play cards or board games and make friends. No registration is required. For other monthly teen activities and events check their event calendar. Teen programs are highlighted in red.

Boone

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa

1450 Oriole Road, Boone 

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa offers tons of options for teens. Whether it be a daily activity or an overnight camp, there is something for all ages. Take a look at all their programs and prices.

Des Moines

Des Moines Playhouse

831 42nd Street, Des Moines

On the second Saturday of the month, the Des Moines Playhouse offers Second Saturday just for teens. Join area teens, grades 6 through 12, for sketch comedy, fast-paced games, and think-on-your-feet in spur-of-the-moment situations. While this isn’t a class, it is planned and supervised by Playhouse education staff. You’ll work in groups of kids your own age, and meet theatre kids from all over the metro and beyond. Bring your friends. Everyone is welcome! Cost is $9.00 per month, payable with cash or checks at the door.

Des Moines Public Library 

Various Locations all over Des Moines

The Des Moines Public Libraries offers fun events, activities, and programs just for teens. Some of these include Comics Creators, Kid Pokemon Card Swap, VolunTeens, Teen Maker Lab, Gaming IRL, Girls Who Code and much more. Take a look at their extensive event calendar to learn more.

Skate North Incrediroll

5621 Meredith Drive, Des Moines

Friday & Saturday; 7 to 10 p.m.

Skate North Incrediroll offers two special nights a week designated for teens! Admission is $8 and skate rental is $2.

Grimes

Grimes Public Library

200 N James Street, Grimes 

The Grimes Public Library offers programs, activities, and events just for teens including Anime Club, Red Cross Babysitting Class, After Hour Events, Chess Club and more. Take a look at their event calendar to see more.

Johnston Public Library

Waukee

Warrior Lanes

Enjoy glow in the dark bowling at Warrior Lanes. Extreme Glow Bowling happened every Friday and Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. Perfect for a group of teens to get together and have some fun. Take a look at pricing on their website.

Skate West

I remember when I was a tween/teen meeting my friends to skate and hang out at Skate West every Friday night. Skate West offers open skate every Friday 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. Take a look at their website for pricing.

    Please keep lists like this updated, or maybe remove them? I found a few things I looked into here aren’t applicable anymore. Some of them are nearly a year old.
