Top Five Reasons Families Should Visit Ted Lare Garden Center

Spring is in the air and so is gardening season. We are thrilled to be partnering with Ted Lare Garden Center to share all the amazing reasons why you should make a trip to this oasis just outside of Des Moines, Iowa.

Landscaping + Water Features

Ted Lare Garden Center has curated an oasis just ten minutes outside of Des Moines. Your experience will be different each visit as what’s in bloom changes and our seasonal selections move through. Make it an adventure as you uncover all the different fountains and ponds and discover the fun shapes of the shrubs. You might even come across a friendly frog or a nesting duck!

Plants

Ted Lare Garden Center has plant options to excite every member of the family. When you enter the main greenhouse, you’re greeted with bright pops of color from our wide selection of tropical favorites, annuals, and perennials. Overhead, there are colorful hanging baskets to either side and the back wall is lined with overflowing ferns in variegated greens. Mixed throughout you’ll find succulents and cacti, perfect for centerpieces and terrariums, or where ever you’ve got a free flat surface.

Outside we’ve got native grasses, shrubs, trees, and more flowers for all your landscaping dreams. And in the Veggie Greenhouse, you’ll find a wide variety of tomatoes and peppers, along with other vegetables, herbs, and fruits to satisfy everyone’s taste buds come harvest.

Take a Class

Ted Lare Garden Center offers a variety of classes and workshops, most of which are kid-friendly! During the summer, our classes are held in our open-air greenhouse or outdoors, so they’re a great way to get outside and do something with your hands. In one class, you can create your own snack garden filled with flowers, herbs, and veggies. Or maybe you’d like to create your own terrarium or pressed flower art? Ted Lare Garden Center has you covered. Or come get your hands dirty and create your own planter for the porch. In June we have opportunities to create a Bright ‘n’ Cheery Summer Planter to bring home some sunshine to last all summer long; or make a Mosquito Planter, where you’ll learn what plants naturally repel mosquitos and create a beautiful, fragrant planter in the process.

Great Gifts

Inside and outside the Garden Center, you’ll find great gifts for everyone. We’ve got unique pots and planters in all shapes, sizes, and colors. There are all kinds of outdoor accessories, from wind spinners and chimes, garden labels and statues to fountains and birdbaths. Our selection of wall décor, candles, and trinkets guarantees you’ll find something you didn’t even know you needed. Find books and journals to inspire. We’ve got bags, hats, hair clips, pins, and bandeaus for all your accessorizing needs. Add some flair with our enamel pins and stickers. Get prepared with gloves, shears, pruners, and a handy bag to carry all those tools.

Support Local

With every visit to Ted Lare Garden Center as you teach your kids about nature, science, and gardening, you’re also teaching them the importance of supporting locals. It really adds to the experience of each visit. Our knowledgeable, friendly staff is ready to answer any questions you have and assist in any way we can.

Ted Lare Garden Center makes a great afternoon outing whether you are looking to start a garden or beautify your home. No matter if you’re an expert or just getting started, we’ve got great options for the whole family.
