Grimes Community Center
1:30 to 5 p.m.
Students will create gorgeous Zen Tangle Turkey Artworks while learning about composition, patterns, and contrast. We will munch on tasty theater food while watching Disney’s Pocahontas and play games that get us active. Students will learn all about Thanksgiving while having a fabulous time! Must register.
HARVEST DAY + RED PANDA DAY
Blank Park Zoo
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visit the zoo and enjoy free Thanksgiving crafts and games and red panda activity. Remember, most of the animals have an indoor viewing, allowing you to see them year-round despite the cold!
GOBBLE GOBBLE STORYTIME AND EDIBLE CRAFT
Clive Public Library
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Come “turkey around” with us at the library for a high flying time! The morning will be filled with silly stories, music, and activities such as a sweet treat to construct and gobble up. Must register online or contact the library. For all ages.
Noon to 2 p.m.
It’s almost time for our annual Turkey Time Family Glow Bowling Party with MOM approved music and totally alcohol-free!
Glow-In-The-Dark Bowling, Concert Lights, and Black Lights
Lanes must be reserved and paid for by 6pm on Friday, 11/09/18.
HOLIDAY ART IN THE PARK
Senior Recreation Center in Urbandale
5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Join your friends as we make holiday-themed crafts. Each session will be themed around the upcoming holiday! Staff instructor. Registration Deadlines: November 5. $8 per child. For ages 5 to 11 years. Register with Urbandale Parks and Recreation.
Living History Farms
Participate in the 40th annual Living History Farms Race, put on by Fitness Sports.
Run through farmland, creeks, dodge animals and claw your way to the top if gullies. Make sure you stay for the post-race lunch, door prizes and awards ceremony. You get dirty and have tons of fun!

Disney celebrates 100 years of magic! The Disney cast will be making an appearance at the Iowa Events Center. Do not miss seeing your favorite characters including Anna, Elsa, Olaf and more.

Festival of Trees & Lights is a five-day public event that is the main fundraiser for Blank Children’s Hospital. This event features beautifully decorated trees, entertainment, children’s activities, food, shopping and more. $5 admission; Children 2 years and younger are free

Come out and celebrate more than 21 years of holiday lights, presented by Hy-Vee! Bundle up the family and enjoy a 2.5-mile ride through more than 100 magical light displays. 100% of admission fees go directly to Make-A-Wish® Iowa! Since it began in 1995, the event has raised enough money to grant more than 700 wishes to Iowa kids. $20 per car.
Downtown Des Moines
Experience Downtown Des Moines on Thanksgiving Day before indulging in your Thanksgiving Day feast.
Runners will start their Thanksgiving run near the Des Moines Courthouse. From there both 5K and 5-mile runners will make their way across the Des Moines River and through the center of the Historic East Village.
Riverfront Des Moines
Sign-up to run a half marathon or 5k. Have children? They can sign-up for the Kids Dash. Bundle up and bring the entire family out for a fun-filled morning.
