Stone Park in Des Moines, Iowa

Stone Park is a stunning new park AND sprayground in Des Moines, Iowa! This playground offers two eye-catching geometric playground structures that invite kids of all ages and abilities to crawl, climb, and slide through. One structure is perfect for 2-5-year-olds–low to the ground but still offering the invitation to explore. The larger structure is filled with belts, unique climbing steps, and hiding spots. My kids have a unique play experience every time they come to this park because this structure encourages it. (Also, my kids loved pouring water down this slide when no other kids were at the park! It made the perfect water slide!

Near the main structures, there are multiple spinners–both standing and sitting– and a merry-go-round. The swing set nearby has woodchips with two standard swings, two plastic bucket swings, and two infant swings.

The larger park area also has four new pickleball courts, a full-size basketball court, and a mini pitch futsal court. Each of them has eye-catching surfacing that will invite your teen to play.

Sprayground

Stone Park has a geometric-themed sprayground, which fits perfectly with the new playground. One side of the sprayground has low sprayers and multiple low geometric misters. In the middle, there is a 3D hexagon sprayer that my kids loved running through! My big kids loved the other side of the playground that had taller sprayers AND two water shooters! This is where their friends and they spent most of their time creating different games around the shooters. And they loved sneaking up on me a couple of times!

Pioneer Columbus Community Center

Stone Park is immediately outside the Des Moines Parks and Recreation Pioneer Columbus Community Center. This community center is a treasure to the community. We love Imagination Playschool, which runs from November to March, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 am-2 pm. For $1.50 for each kid one and up, it offers room for the kids to run and play, climb on safe structures, and ride different playcars around. It was the perfect place for me as a mom to meet up with friends and to meet new moms.

Outside of Imagination Playschool, the community center is free for kids under 18 (under 10 must be accompanied by an adult), and adults are $1. I have gone here several times to get a quick lifting workout in. Year-round, they also have inside pickleball times set aside.

Nearby Stone Park

Stone Park is located near many Des Moines treasures! It is less than a mile from Columbus Park, 1921 SE 1st St, a pirate-themed playground with a sprayground too! One of our favorite school playgrounds is a half mile away at McKinley Elementary, perfect for the risk-taker climber!

Less than two blocks away, you will find B&B Deli, 2001 SE 6th St. You’ll experience a big city deli in Des Moines. The Grateful Chef at 1938 SE 6th St Suite 103 has a pre-order menu for take-home meals, but I love stopping in to see what deliciousness they have in the freezer and grab and go cooler!
