Quail Cove Park in West Des Moines, Iowa

Quail Cove Park has been a classic, tucked-away neighborhood park in West Des Moines for a while. Whenever we go to this park, we quickly feel like we have left the city and have found a hideaway that few people know about.

This park has two playgrounds, a 2-5 year old playground and a 5-12 year old playground. The 2-5 year old playground is perfect for toddlers, offering multiple challenging ways for them to climb and test their bodies, but still low to the ground. There are also lower monkey bars here! The playgrounds are surrounded by large trees, hiding the houses and roads that surround the park.  I love this as a parent, so my toddlers who run don’t get distracted by cars driving by.

The larger playground is climbing focused. There is a large boulder to climb up. My kids spend most of their time exploring there. It is connected to a standard structure with a slide. Then there is a rope bridge connected to a large rope pyramid. All of my kids have loved challenging their strength but also their bravery on this!

One of our favorite things about this park is the half-mile nature trail loop to the west of the playgrounds. This is the perfect little hike for anyone who wants a quick time in nature (also perfect for toddlers).
