If you love vintage arcade games, pizza, and hours of fun Monsterama Arcade is the place for you! Our family loves to check out fun arcade locations in central Iowa and up to now, you could find vintage games in the East Village, West Des Moines, Ankeny, etc. Now, you can find one on the south side of Des Moines! This new monster-themed arcade provides hours of fun for all ages in this family-friendly establishment. We made a visit and had a fun hot, summer day eating pizza made from local brands, drinking unlimited fountain drinks, and playing arcade games. Take a look at all the details.
The Monsterama Decor
When you walk into Monsterama you feel like you are walking into a fun haunted house. Not too scary though for the littles! If you are local to Des Moines, you may have heard of Ian The kids loved the giant, eight-foot king kong hand hanging from the ceiling, the fun booths, chairs, and all the other small haunted details that decorated the restaurant/arcade. The detail of Ian Miller owner of the Slaughterhouse Des Moines who helped plan the decor for the arcade. The decor is impressive and probably the coolest part of the arcade. Every time you turn a corner you see something new and fun!
The Food and Snack Shop
If you are coming to play vintage games, come hungry! Monsterama Arcade offers pizza with fresh. local ingredients including Mama Rosa pasta sauce and Graziano’s. The full menu is not served every day, all day. When we made a visit on a Tuesday afternoon we could order pizza by the slice (which was delish) or a hot dog combo. Take a look at their daily specials, menu, and hours before you go.
In addition, they offer unlimited refills on fountain drinks and do not offer any alcohol. They do offer fun, energy-infused “gamer drinks” such as The Undead Arnie, The Grape Ape, and more.
Vintage Arcade Games
Monsterama offers all the fun games including several pinball games, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Mrs. PacMan (I may have spent too much time on this), Teenage Mutant Turtles, Ghostbusters, and so much more. Monsterama offers 50 arcade games so you are sure to not go bored!
It is not expensive to play either! All games are set to free play, so you can purchase a wristband and play as many times you want and for as long as you want. Need to leave for an appointment or to pick someone up? No worries! You can come back and play for the rest of the day you paid for.
