After everyone has arrived everyone jumps on a big trolley to make the trek towards the farm. Our leader shared all about Hansen’s Dairy Farm on our way to see the cows and kangaroos on the farm.

About Hansen’s Dairy Farm

The Hansen’s Dairy Farm is currently being run by the seventh generation of Hansen’s making this farm being a part of the Hansen family since 1864. Currently, four Hansen sons work on the farm and are designated different jobs to make sure the farm and creamery stay in operation. Each son and their family live on the farm or in Hudson, Iowa just a few miles down the road.

Kangaroos serve as the mascot for Hansen’s Dairy Farm. One of the co-owners, Blake Hansen, visited Australia and fell in love with the kangaroos down under. When he returned home he decided he needed them as pets.

Hansen Dairy Farm Tour

The Hansen Dairy Farm Tour is a unique experience and allows guests to get a deep look into how the operation works for the Hansen family. We had a chance to see and pet the expecting cows.

Learned how the farmers name and keep track of all the cows. Their system is pretty impressive!

Milked a cow.

Made butter ourselves. Which is a pretty intense job for a four-year-old, but the final product was delish!

Indulged in delicious ice cream.

Bottle fed the baby cows.

Oh, and play with these soft and sweet creatures.

I will be honest, the main reason why we visited Hansen’s Dairy Farm was to get up close and personal with these friendly kangaroos. It did not disappoint. We were able to feed them a snack. Whole wheat bread is their preference! They were a little shy but friendly.

Although the kangaroos were extra special, the entire farm tour was pretty amazing. I was impressed with how much of an inside look we had to experience on the tour.
