Kid-Friendly KC Destinations

When many people think of Kansas City they may first thing of Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun, but the KC area is HUGE and offers so many kid-friendly KC destinations. There are a ton of hidden gems located in the area and I am sharing a handful with you.

Note: Due to COVID-19 the state of Kansas has a mask mandate in place. In addition, many businesses require masks in the KC area that require masks to enter their businesses. Please always practice social distancing.

RoKC Rock Climbing

1501 Howell Street, North Kansas City, Missouri

This fun destination offers hours and hours of rock climbing. The kids had a blast challenging themselves on boulders and hooking up to climb super high! The entire staff very welcoming and did a wonderful job explaining everything before we started.

Penguin Park

4124 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, Missouri

This park is probably one of our favorites of all! The kids loved the giant penguin, giraffe and kangaroo. All the climbing opportunities were amazing too. Definitely a very unique park in the Midwest. You will not regret this stop.

Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary

407 N La Frenz Road, Liberty, Missouri

Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary is a beautiful, hidden spot in Liberty, Missouri. I was not sure what to expect, but the trails, beautiful flowers and butterflies made it worthwhile. They also have a Nature Center, but it is currently closed due to COVID-19.

If you get hungry or thirsty during your trip through Liberty, Missouri make sure you check out Conrad’s Restaurant and Alehouse and/or 3HALVES Brewery Co.

C.W. Parker Carousel Museum

320 S Esplanade St, Leavenworth, Kansas

I never knew how much history was behind one of my favorite carnival ride, the Carousel. The C.W. Parker Carousel Museum holds the entire history of the Carousel which is very interesting! Of course, there are opportunities for fun rides on a 1913 Carousel. We had a ton of fun and learned so much.

While in Leavenworth, Kansas do a drive around town and stop to take some selfies in front of one of their fun murals or grab a coffee at Harbor Light Coffee House.

Angel Falls Trail

900 Ida Street, Lansing, Kansas

This was a fun pit stop between Leavenworth and back to Kansas City, Kansas. This little trail leads to a small creek that has a waterfall and a place for you to stomp, splash, and play. The trail is paved!

Jarvy’s Shave Ice

211 North Main Street, Lansing, Kansas

After a hike and playing in the water, stop for Jarvy’s Shave Ice! They offer so many options including Unicorn Poop which my daughter was all over. I went for the Banana’s Foster and it was delish.

Legends Outlets Kansas City

1843 Village West Pkwy C-127, Kansas City, Kansas

This was a fun stop and the perfect place to grab dinner after a day full of exploring! Legends is NOT your typical outdoor shopping mall. They have a fun center court where kids can run and play, tons of outdoor seating, and they offer fun scavenger hunts for families too. We enjoyed dinner at the Yard House and dessert at Sheridan’s Frozen Custard.

Avenue of Murals

Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas

Exploring the Avenue of Murals is the perfect way to explore downtown Kansas City, Kansas as well. The Avenue of Murals includes eight murals that celebrate the history and culture of Kansas City, Kansas. Check out the list of murals and print it off for your tour.

Great Wolf Lodge

10401 Cabela Dr, Kansas City, Kansas

You will need a place to stay while playing in the KC area and Great Wolf Lodge is the perfect place to stay for families. We had an amazing time swimming, dancing, playing MagiQuest and more. We were very impressed with how well they handled the health and safety of all the guests. Masks, social distancing, half capacity, and more.

Union Station Kansas City

30 W Pershing Rd, Kansas City, Missouri

The Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri is home to many fun attractions including Science City, Museum of Illusions, Dinosaur Road Trip exhibit, and much more. Union Station is a place where families can spend an entire day having fun!

Crown Center

2450 Grand Boulevard; Kansas City, Missouri

Crown Center is connected to the Union Station via the Link and another fun place to shop and explore. They also offer an outdoor area with fountains and for kids to stretch their legs. You will not want to miss lunch at Fritz’s where a train delivers your meals to your table! Crown Center is full of fun experiences for the entire family.
