Alfonso Goes Home by Des Moines Author

It has been fun to highlight and share with all of you some amazing local authors in the Des Moines area. The books we have shared are not only fun to read, but also bring to light important topics. Alfonso Goes Home was written by Jamie Talbott-Lamb does just that and also part of the proceeds goes to a great cause. Learn more below!

When did you first realize you wanted to write a book?

I have wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember as books are
among my favorite things. This particular story, I have been wanting to tell
since I met a colony of cats on Galveston Island many years ago. Knowing
that each cat had a story, I recall trying to determine whence each cat came.

Where did you write Alfonso Goes Home?

Spending a great deal of time at Mayo Clinic with an ill family member,
found myself with time on my hands. It would be difficult not to be inspired
at Mayo Rochester. What an amazing place, full of kindness, hope, and
positive energy.

How did you come up with the title of your book?

I have a very dear friend, named Alfonso, who has created a beautiful home
and life for himself after being homeless for a time. My admiration for him is
immeasurable.

Do you hear from your readers? What kinds of things do they say?

I do hear from readers and they are so kind. They often share ideas about
further adventures for Alfonso. Readers often send creative pieces of art that
I cherish and display it in my studio. I am very grateful for this.

What is the key theme and/or message in the book?

Homelessness (for ANY creature) should NOT be an issue!

What was the highlight of writing this book?

A portion of the royalties from this book goes to NAMI-Greater Des Moines.
Being able to give back to NAMI – Greater Des Moines has been the highlight
for sure.

Where can your readers purchase your book?

Alfonso Goes Home can be purchased at MoMere in Historic Valley Junction or
Beaverdale Books in Beaverdale. The book is, also, available on Amazon or
on my website.
