Kava is an amazing herb that has been used in the South Pacific as a tea and powder for medicinal purposes and as a relaxant for thousands of years. It has an amazing calming effect on the nervous system! If you know, you know! It is used as a tea, a powder, and even in tablet form. Tell us about Kava DSM. What can we expect when you visit?
Kava DSM is a labor of love for the community of Des Moines and beyond brought to you by myself, my husband Ben, and David Tracy of Northgate Marketing. It is a place where people can come together for work or play without alcohol to relax, unwind, and be nourished. We will feature Paleo waffles, smoothies, smoothie bowls, Kava and Kava mocktails, coffee, plant-based gelato, grab-and-go salads and other goodies, and more!
Paradise awaits you! When you walk inside you will see stunning tropical plants from Petals & Moss displaying a blend of the Islands and the beautiful Jersey Shore where I am originally from. If you think the ambiance is amazing, wait until you see our food creations! Everything is a feast for the eyes AND the stomach.
Why is Kava beneficial for the Des Moines community?
It is a community collaboration bringing together some local favorites including Nourished DSM, and Sleepy Cat Coffee Roasters.
Tell us more about you! Who are you and what other projects are you working on?
I was invited to start Natural Health Improvement Center of Des Moines almost 4 years ago. For 3 years I traveled back-and-forth from my New Jersey practice and home to Des Moines twice a month before moving my family here permanently. I practice clinical herbalism, functional nutrition, and nutrition response testing which is a non-invasive way of testing the body for food sensitivities, immune system challenges, metals, chemicals, and other toxins including mold. My focus is family, the health and education of my patients, and building community.
Kava DSM is another way to bring health and nutrition to the area. I also started a chapter of Crispy Crunchy Markets here in Des Moines which is a community-based farmers market and vendor event held monthly during the summer and then periodically throughout the rest of the year. I am a wife, and mom to five kids and live on a 20-acre horse farm in Madison County where I hit the jackpot with hundreds of elderberry plants right on her property…a Goldmine for an herbalist!
