This holiday season discover the perfect gift for everyone on your list! Start with a timeless tale of joy and goodwill, fill it with classic Irving Berlin songs, top it off with glorious dancing and lots of snow and head on over to The Des Moines Civic Center to see IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS. Performances begin November 19 for this must-see classic in a lavish new production that the New York Times says to “put on your wish list.” IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS tells the story of a song-and-dance team putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn and falling for a stunning sister act in the process. Full of dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written! Give everyone the gift they’re dreaming of with this merry and bright holiday musical.

A true holiday favorite, this beloved comedy classic features renowned composer John Williams’ charming and delightful score performed live to picture by the Des Moines Symphony. Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old boy who’s accidentally left behind when his family leaves for Christmas vacation, and who must defend his home against two bungling thieves.  Hilarious and heart-warming, Home Alone is holiday fun for the entire family!

A Christmas Story, The Musical

Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Hohman, IN, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts: an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Rebuffed at every turn with a similar echoing response, Ralphie plots numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun. All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie’s friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother, Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; the Chinese restaurant; Christmas dinner; and many others.

Celebrate the holiday season in style with International Steinway Artist, Jim McDonough, joined by his 14-piece professional orchestra and a cast of sensational singers and dancers performing your favorite Christmas music and other all-time favorites. Proceeds benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.

The Nutcracker

Iowa Dance Theatre’s Annual Nutcracker will be performed on Saturday & Sunday, December 7 & 8, 2019 at the Des Moines Civic Center. Over 240 performers from 36 Dance Schools in the Central Iowa area have been offered roles in this delightful performance!

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Schulz’s timeless story of the spirit of Christmas, A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS LIVE ON STAGE features the unforgettable music of Vince Guaraldi, as well as a concert of beloved holiday carols performed by the Peanuts characters. Ballet Des Moines Presents The Nutcracker

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters. You will be visually delighted by their resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Ballet Des Moines is central Iowa’s only resident professional ballet company. Under the artistic direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and providing the highest level of dance education in the region.

Christmas with the Choral Society

St. Ambrose Cathedral

The one you come back for, year after year…join us at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at St. Ambrose Cathedral for an inspiring program of great works and seasonal favorites, all in celebration of the Christmas spirit. Together with a chamber orchestra, piano, and soloists, the Des Moines Choral Society will fill the cathedral with the joy of the season!

Tonic Sol-fa is a ground-breaking a cappella ensemble from Minnesota, in constant development since their formation two decades ago. TSF stands as one of the leading forces in the world of vocal music with Emmy Award-winning arrangements and multi-million selling compositions.

Celebrate the holiday season at this popular show. The guys have arranged a fantastic a cappella show, fun for any age.
