“Elf” has quickly become a modern Christmas classic! Based on the 2003 film, “Elf – The Musical” tells the story of Buddy, a human raised as an elf at the North Pole. Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making skills soon make him realize he’s not fit to live at the North Pole.

Once realizing he’s a human, Buddy travels to New York City to find his true father and understand his past, only to learn that his father is on the naughty list! Buddy must reconnect with his dad and half-brother who doesn’t believe in Santa to embrace the true meaning of Christmas. Themes of love, friendship, and Christmas cheer follow Buddy on his big-city adventure in the regional debut of this holiday show for the whole family!

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters. You will be visually delighted by their resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Ballet Des Moines is central Iowa’s only resident professional ballet company. Under the artistic direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and providing the highest level of dance education in the region.

Christmas with the Choral Society

The one you come back for, year after year…join us at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at St. Ambrose Cathedral for an inspiring program of great works and seasonal favorites, all in celebration of the Christmas spirit. Together with chamber orchestra, piano, and soloists, the Des Moines Choral Society will fill the cathedral with the joy of the season!

Tonic Sol-fa is a ground-breaking a cappella ensemble from Minnesota, in constant development since their formation two decades ago. TSF stands as one of the leading forces in the world of vocal music with Emmy Award-winning arrangements and multi-million selling compositions.

Celebrate the holiday season at this popular show. The guys have arranged a fantastic a cappella show, fun for any age.

The Nutcracker

Iowa Dance Theatre presents The Nutcracker Ballet. Experience the adventures of a girl named Clara as she journeys to a distant land where a prince battles mischievous mice, flowers waltz and a Sugar Plum Fairy delights children of every age.

Iowa Dance Theatre has produced the ballet at the Des Moines Civic Center since 1997. The Nutcracker is choreographed and directed by a team of dance professionals from Central Iowa. Set to the timeless music of Tchaikovsky, Iowa Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet is a great holiday experience for the whole family.

Celebrate the holiday season in style with International Steinway Artist, Jim McDonough, joined by his 14-piece professional orchestra and a cast of sensational singers and dancers performing your favorite Christmas music and other all-time favorites. Proceeds benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reinder: The Musical

Come to see all of your favorite characters from the special including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph, as they come to life in RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL. It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special. Don’t miss this wonderful holiday tradition that speaks to the misfit in all of us.

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER CHRISTMAS by Chip Davis has been America’s favorite holiday tradition for over 30 years!  Grammy Award winner Chip Davis has created a show that features Mannheim Steamroller Christmas classics along with a selection of compositions from Chip’s groundbreaking Fresh Aire series which introduced the distinctive Mannheim sound to all of America. The program celebrates the group’s recent anniversary of 30 years since the first Christmas album and 40 years since the first Fresh Aire album and includes dazzling multimedia effects performed in an intimate setting. A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage

Everyone’s favorite holiday classic comes to life in the all-new touring production A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage! Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the whole Peanuts gang as they put on their own Christmas play and ultimately discover the true meaning of the season.

Adapted from Charles M. Schulz’s timeless story of the spirit of Christmas, the show features the unforgettable music of Vince Guaraldi, as well as a concert of beloved holiday carols performed by the Peanuts characters. There’s no better way to discover the magic of the season!
