Fall is a wonderful season to enjoy the beauty of nature, the crisp air, and the festive spirit. And what better way to celebrate fall than visiting Howell’s Pumpkin Patch in Cumming, Iowa? Howell’s Pumpkin Patch is more than just a place to pick your own pumpkins. It’s a destination for family fun, adventure, and entertainment.

Howell’s Pumpkin Patch has something for everyone, whether you are young or young at heart. You can hop on a tractor-pulled wagon ride and explore the corn maze and the pumpkin patch, where you can find pumpkins of all sizes and colors. You can also meet the friendly barnyard full of goats. You can play in the kiddie korral, where you can enjoy pedal tractors, wiggle cars, hay stacks, mud pies, the corn box, and a giant cow slide. Take a ride around in there one of a kind bathtub train. Enjoy some of the new activities for 2023 such as our low ropes course and Bee Lines.

Howell’s Pumpkin Patch is also a great place to shop for seasonal decorations and gifts. You can browse through their extensive gift shop, where you can find dried florals, milkhouse candles, and fall decor. If you need a mum, they have some nice BIG ones!

Howell’s Pumpkin Patch is open daily from September 9th to October 31st from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The admission fee is $18 per person (under 2 free) at the gate or $15 when purchased online. Admission includes the wagon ride, the corn maze, the pumpkin patch, playground activities, the bathtub train, the low ropes course, and the beeline.  The pumpkins are sold separately by weight. No pets are allowed at Howell’s Pumpkin Patch.

  • September 23 & 24 – Hometown Heros – A heartfelt salute to our local heroes who have hard jobs risking their lives, saving our lives, or shaping our lives.
  • September 9-24 – Fall Goat Cuddling – If you didn’t get enough snuggling in during the summer, here’s your chance to get some more snuggles in.  Fall Goat Snuggling is an added bonus to your paid admission.
  • October 29 – Trick or Treat on the Farm – Come have some Halloween fun on the farm!  Scavenge for treats around the farm, smash some pumpkins, enjoy all our fall activities, and more.
  • October 30 – Howell’s Pumpkin Patch Pumpkin Smash – With pumpkin season coming to a close, let’s celebrate a successful harvest with a smashing good time! Join us on the farm to make a fantastic fall mess of some of our remaining pumpkins.

Located in Cambridge which is between Ames and Ankeny. Center Grove Orchard is loaded with fun activities for the whole family including apple picking, a pumpkin patch, farm animals, a corn maze, a corn pool, jumping pillow, hayrack rides, rubber duck races, hands-on Discovery Barn, and much more. August 26 – Opening day!

Deal’s Orchard offers a lot of apple varieties. Check before you go for what varieties are available and when. They offer a beautiful Apple Barn that hosts great gifts, yummy apple treats, and more. Apple Acres is where all the fun is at which includes jumping pillow, corn pool, goat run, giant slides, duck races, pedal tractors, human hamster wheels, wiggle cars, and more. They also offer pony rides on select dates. Save the date for October 14-15 for their annual Fall Festival!

Iowa Orchard

The Iowa Orchard is located right in the city, of Urbandale. Do not be fooled by the name, they also have lots of pumpkins and gourds available to pick from. They offer tons of varieties of apples. They also offer pies, apple cider, different sauces, and much more. The Family Fun Zone is open from mid-September through Halloween. Open on the weekends only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $5 per person. Children 2 years and younger are free. They also offer tour packages you can sign up for.

If you are just wanting to pick out a pumpkin you can visit Tuesday- Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from late September through Halloween.

The Pumpkin Ranch

September 16 – October 30. Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m.

The Pumpkin Ranch will be open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. On Friday they will be offering discounted admission. Children ages 2 years and under are free. The Pumpkin Ranch is known for its Mega Corn Maze, they have a jumping pillow, zip lines, hayrack rides, horseback riding, toddler town, and much more. Pumpkinville & Cornmaze

Pumpkinville is fun for all ages. Which includes the straw train, straw jump, will’s worm, sack races, tug-a-pumpkin, and granary. A great spot for fall family fun! There is a large corn maze and mini corn maze offered.

No admission fee to the farm.

Uncle Bill’s Farm

Uncle Bill’s Farm in Grinnell, Iowa is the place to take your loved ones to enjoy plenty of family-friendly fun! They have lots and lots of safe, farm-style attractions that many thousands of folks have enjoyed for over 25 years. No matter the weather, the farm has plenty of indoor and outdoor fun on tap as well as several picnic shelters, indoor restrooms (not portables), and free parking. Folks look forward to all the new things Uncle Bill adds to the farm fun each year. There are 10 acres of pumpkins, a corn pool, an indoor glass beehive, a chick incubator & brooder, live entertainment on the weekends, and more. Admission is $13 for ages 3 years and older.

Wills Family Orchard

This is a definite must-do this fall season. We made a trip to Will Family Orchard a couple of years ago and enjoyed every minute of it. Located just west of Adel, they offer organic apples for picking, a pumpkin patch, farm animals, and a cute little store to shop at and paint your own gourd.

They host an Apple & Pumpkin Fest several weekends during the season which offers family-friendly activities. Admission for adults is $7 plus tax and for children is $9 plus tax. Activities include a corn maze, hay wagon rides, an expanded kids’ play area (giant corn box, kiddie hay bale maze & duck races), and toss games. Plus, their friendly barnyard animals will be there to greet you.
