Formerly Paula Brekke School of Dance and Tumbling, Brekke Dance Center is a family business that has been operating for over 25 years. They are all about making learning dance fun! For your younger, beginner dancers the combination class is recommended so they can explore the different dance styles. We’ve highlighted Mid Iowa Gymnastics on the site before so, of course, we had to put it on this list! This gym has great options for both members and non-members. They offer preschool classes for kids as young as 2-3 years old (with a parent or guardian involved). There’s something for all levels of gymnasts. They also host an open gym which is a fun way for the kids to get some energy and work on their gymnastics skills.
Parks & Recreation
Your local parks and recreation program may be a great place to check out! A lot of cities offer short-term programs at a low cost. This may be the perfect way for you to see if your child is truly interested in tumbling and gymnastics.

Starstruck All-Stars is the premier Competitive Cheer Gym and Dance Studio located in Pleasant Hill, IA. Classes are offered to pre-school through Senior high school-aged students. Starstruck emphasizes tumbling for all ages and disciplines in conjunction with Cheer and Dance.
Sapphire Gymnastics Academy

Triad Gymnastics was founded in 1997 with the goal of supporting the mind, body, and spirit of each student. Triad is considered to be a top children’s activity center in the Des Moines area. They offer parent and child classes for those as young as a year old all the way to age 11. This is the perfect place for your child to learn gymnastics basics from a young age! Westside Dance Academy

Westside Dance Academy’s recreational program strives to achieve a fun atmosphere while teaching the core fundamentals of ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. Dress code included. They also offer competitions and other fun events.
If you already belong to your local YMCA, signing up for their Tumble Tots program may be a great route for you! Monte has taken Tumble Tots and was a great introduction for him to learn about tumbling and also a great opportunity for him to burn off some energy! It is a slightly structured class, but they do understand toddlers love to run and play. Check out our experience here.
As you can see, there really are a lot of options in the Des Moines area whether your child wants to try dance, gymnastics, or tumbling. The great part is that as your little one gets older whether they end up continuing these activities recreationally or they get more competitive with it, there’s a place for them to go in the area!
