Colby Park in Windsor Heights, Iowa
Colby Park’s playground just received a whole new facelift and wow it is amazing! As you walk up, you see a large structure with two towers connected by a tunnel. This structure offers belt climbers and ropes to climb up and is perfect for the most daring of kids. There are also several slides coming from the towers. My daughter loved climbing up the tall ropes that connect to the structure and sliding into the structure.
Off to the side, you see another 5-12-year-old playground that is smaller, yet still stunning. This section offers many unique ways to climb up. A ramp also leads to the main area with multiple sensory opportunities for all abilities. The spinner with sand flowing was my favorite to watch. A turf-covered hill is next to this structure with different balance and rope features.

In the center of the playground, you will find an alpine slide which offers a new sliding experience. To climb up this slide, there is a large flat belt climber that allows kids to test their balance.

Near this slide, you will find the 2-5-year-old playground structure. This structure has several parts that focus on balance. My kids automatically wanted me to time them in a self-created obstacle course in this area. At the end of this structure, two fox dens are found. These fox den hangouts are a place for kids to escape the busyness of the playground and relax. They are created for single or double use. My kids loved the gentle rocks of these hammock-like features.

This playground is great for elementary-aged kids. If you are with children or toddlers who need more assistance, be prepared to offer lots of supervision.
Sprayground
With all of the updates, a sprayground has also been added at Colby Park. The sprayground is found just east of the main playground area. Take a look at other spraygrounds and splash pads in the Des Moines metro.
