Family Fest Johnston

Address: Johnston Town Center, 6245 Merle Hay Rd, Johnston, IA 50131

When: Saturday, June 1st, 11:00 AM-2:00 PM

Cost: Free to attend

Kick off your June with Family Fest in Johnston. There will be alpacas, dance performances, circus arts and aerial performances, and a magic show. Don’t forget your swimsuit and visit the splash pad too! Try painting a bath bomb, spin art, playing mini golf, or playing a yard game. Bring your appetite and try one of the food trucks.

Trek the Parks Kick-off Party

Address: The Brenton Arboretum, 25141 260th St, Dallas Center, IA 50063

When: Sunday, June 2nd from Noon to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free

Join Des Moines Parent as we kick off the 7th annual Trek the Parks Challenge. This year we are celebrating at The Brenton Arboretum. There will be fun activities including “Hug a Tree” with  The Brenton Arboretum, Muddy Boots and binSpire LLC activities, live entertainment from Cirque Wonderland, and The Traveling Basket will be there with a photo opp. Bluely will be our special guest! Free popsicles (while supplies last). We hope to see you there!

Des Moines Children’s Museum’s 7th Birthday Party 

Address: Heritage Carousel at Union Park, 725 Thompson Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313

When: Saturday, June 2nd, 3:00 PM-5:30 PM

Cost: Free 

Happy 7th Birthday to the Des Moines Children’s Museum! Celebrate with them at their Heritage Carousel Birthday Party. Start the party with unlimited free rides on the carousel, then enjoy free cake, and play at the foam party.

Governors Days in Grimes

Address: Grimes South Sports Complex, 750 S James St. Grimes, IA 50111

  • Friday, June 7th, 11:00 AM-11:45 PM
  • Saturday, June 8th, 6:30 AM-11:45 PM

Cost: Free Admission 

Celebrate the Grimes community at Governors Days. Throughout the weekend, you’ll be able to purchase $25 wristbands for unlimited rides with Sam’s Amusement Carnival & Midway, visit craft & food vendors, and enjoy live music. Thursday night is the Kiddie Parade at 6:30 PM. On Friday, watch or participate in the talent show at noon. Saturday morning kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 PM and a 5K/1 Mile Fun Run at 7:30 AM. Then watch the Grand Parade at 10:00 AM. Later on, check out the cool cars at the car show. Love You Des Moines Days

Celebrate our community with ten days of over 400 free activities at  Love You Des Moines Days. Some of those activities include a pickleball clinic, 5K or 1K Family Fun Run, dance classes, a splash bash, a variety of sports clinics, arts & crafts, a blood drive, and even dodgeball! The Valley Community Center knows how to show love to Des Moines. 

Party in the Park with Urbandale

Address: Walker Johnston Park, 9000 Douglas Ave, Urbandale, IA 50322

When: Friday, June 7th, 5:00 PM-9:00 PM

Cost: Free to attend

Join Urbandale Parks & Rec to celebrate the start of summer at Party in the Park. There will be plenty of fun including bounce houses, laser tag, lawn games, live music, food trucks, and a beer garden for the adults.

Raccoon River Park Palooza 

Address: Raccoon River Park, 2500 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, IA 50265

When: Saturday, June 8th, 8:00 AM-8:00 PM

Cost: Free to attend 

Spend your Saturday at Raccoon River Park Palooza. Start the day with Cops & Bobs, a chance to fish with your local police officers. Then touch a truck, listen to live music, and watch (or participate) in the famous Cardboard Boat Races. With food trucks and a family fun zone, there will be plenty of things to experience throughout the day.

Neighbor’s Day Celebration

When: Saturday, June 15th, 12:00 PM-7:00 PM

Cost: Free to attend 

Head to Western Gateway Park to partake in Iowa’s Juneteenth Observance Neighbor’s Day Celebration. Live entertainment, bouncy houses, food, and shopping are just a few of the activities you can expect.
