A weekend in Pella, Iowa feels like stepping into a storybook. It is known for its Dutch roots, walkable downtown, and welcoming small-town charm, Pella is ideal for a short Iowa getaway that doesn’t require a packed itinerary.
From boutique shopping and local dining to scenic views at Lake Red Rock, Pella offers just the right mix of relaxation and exploration, especially when you have the perfect place to stay.

Stay at The Rock House: A Historic Pella Cottage Retreat
This sweet cottage was built in 1856 by Dutch homesteaders. The Rock House is one of the most unique places to stay in Pella. It has been thoughtfully restored and this two-bedroom cottage keeps its historic character while offering the comforts that we all expect today. It has a full size refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and more.

At 750 square feet, the home feels intentionally cozy, perfect for meaningful conversations, slow mornings, and evenings spent unwinding together. I loved the all the original details paired with stylish renovations create a warm, welcoming space.

If you have kids, they will love the upstairs loft! This spot has two twin size beds that are comfy. Great for kids, but also perfect sleeping arrangements if you are planning a girls weekend.

Bonus! The home is stocked with extra blankets, quality pillows, nice soaps, Netflix, and a coffee bar, making it easy to settle in and feel at home.
Explore Pella During Your Weekend Getaway
One of the best parts of a Pella, Iowa weekend getaway is how easy it is to explore everything at a relaxed pace, especially when staying close to downtown.
The Pella Square is where all the fun is happening! I love the charming streets, locally owned boutiques, and local restaurants. This is the perfect place to shop for yourself or pick up thoughtful gifts for loved ones. While you are downtown, it is the perfect opportunity to stock up on snacks and necessities to bring back to the cottage for your stay.

Bakeries, Snacks & Charcuterie Must-Stops
No weekend in Pella is complete without something sweet (or savory):
- Jaarsma Bakery and Cranberry Stone Bakery are musts for breakfast or dessert especially the Wedding Cake cupcakes, which are truly to die for.
- Stop by Ulrich Meat Market to grab meats, cheeses, and dips to build your own charcuterie board back at the cottage. Perfect for late-night snacking.

Wine, Cocktails & Cozy Night Plans
Before checking in to The Rock House, take a short, scenic drive to Tassel Ridge Winery. Enjoy a wine flight, then stock up on a few bottles to sip later during your Netflix binge and long conversations with your girlfriends, or a quiet night in with your favorite person.
Looking for great food and drinks while you are in town?
- de Kelder Speakeasy is a must for cocktails and heavy apps in a cozy, intimate setting.
- For lunch, The Liberty Kitchen serves up delicious entrées that are perfect fuel before more shopping and strolling.
- Do not leave without grabbing an epic Bloody Mary from The Cellar Peanut Pub. It is a local favorite!

Coffee Stops You Will Love
Local coffee shops are a must during any Pella weekend getaway. Warm up with a latte (or two) from Iris Coffee Company or Brew Coffee House, both perfect for slow mornings before heading back to the square or curling up at the cottage.
