Des Moines Parent Spotlight: Meridith McCarty of Time Freedom Co.

One thing about Meridith McCarty is that she loves to connect with other mom entrepreneurs. She’s a “total networker” and enjoys helping others where she can.

She does so, in part, through her business, Time Freedom Co.

Des Moines Parent connected with Meridith to learn more about her and her journey.

Give us a little background on yourself.

I was born and raised in Johnston and then attended Iowa State University. My husband’s career in managing professional golf tournaments had us moving up and down the East Coast from 2016 to 2021. When his company called us to move back home for him to run the Principal Charity Classic, it was an instant yes! We knew we always wanted to raise our kids in the Midwest close to our families.

I have two kids, a daughter who is 3 and a son who is 1. We are also welcoming our third in April, another baby girl. We will have three under the age of 4, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Could you give us an overview of your business and what inspired it?

I started my business, Time Freedom Co., back in 2018 when I was tired of moving every year and having to find a new job. I felt stunted in my career growth and wanted something different.

I always knew I wanted to be my own boss, I just didn’t know what that would look like. I haven’t ever been good at being told what to do (😉) or how to spend my time. So for me, I wanted to create a business so that I could have time freedom.

I knew I wanted to be able to have a successful business while also being a present mother and wife. I truly believe that I can live a full life and be successful in all those roles.

Now I teach female entrepreneurs how to not trade their time for money. I help empower them to unlock total time freedom in both their business and personal lives through digital products and personalized 1:1 support.

I truly believe to my core that every one of us can have a thriving business that not only boosts our income but also preserves those irreplaceable moments for them and their loved ones.

What are your favorite parts of your business?

My favorite part is being my own boss, hands down. To me, having time freedom is the ultimate form of wealth, and being able to make money without trading your time is the only way I work now. I don’t have to ask for time off to take my kids somewhere, go on vacations, or work on someone else’s schedule to still be creating revenue.

My favorite experiences are definitely when clients tell me the transformations they have after implementing the steps I teach to unlock time freedom. For example:

  • My client Julie went through my framework and created clear systems, which resulted in her annual revenue jumping from 110K to 500K while only working four days a week.
  • My client Shawna hired a PT for her clinic who went on maternity leave, and it was totally fine. Once she returns, she will work only two days a week and have launched her new coaching offer on her website.
  • My client Kelsea says she went from being burned out and overwhelmed to feeling at ease with online systems that will help her run her business smoothly, including outsourcing and delegating when needed. She now feels confident that she can stay true to her mission of life and work happiness because she will not be trying to do it all herself and get lost in a million sticky notes and weekly to-do lists.

How do you juggle your parenting responsibilities with your business responsibilities?

I don’t do it alone! I have a nanny who comes twice a week for five hours a day so I can get my deep work done. I also am not afraid to ask for help when it comes to outsourcing other things in our life.

We are meant to live in a community together, so ask for support!

I also always aim to work smarter, not harder. I work on high priorities or tasks that will move the needle forward in my business daily.

I have gotten clear on my values, vision, mission, offers, and how I want to help other female entrepreneurs. Once you are clear on those, you can simplify and only focus on revenue-generating opportunities instead of just checking things off a to-do list and working haphazardly hoping something sticks.

What are some of your favorite things to do with your family around the metro?

We’re huge fans of soaking up as much outdoor time as we can, so hitting up a nearby park and packing a picnic is a go-to activity for us. The sunshine and fresh air do wonders for all of us, especially when shaking off the cold winter months.

And then we’re die-hard Iowa State fans, so we make it a point to head to Ames whenever we can to catch a football or basketball game.

What’s your ideal parent day or night out?

We love to go to happy hours or try new restaurants for dinner around the metro. Some of our favorite spots are Central Standard, Francies, and Wasabi. We have so many great options in the metro!

What’s your number one parenting tip?

My number one parenting tip is to have patience. I’ve learned that the more patient I am, the more peace I have at home. But here’s the thing—being a patient mom means you’ve got to be happy and fulfilled in your own life first. It’s all connected. How we feel inside shows up in how we act with our family.
