Horizon’s Ridge Park in Urbandale, Iowa
Horizon’s Ridge Park in Urbandale got a makeover! Located in the Walnut Creek Regional Park, this park is a standard 5-12-year-old structure with several unique elements, especially the different ways to climb up! My slide lovers loved the four different slides. The lily pads and unique shape of the playground invited all sorts of imaginative play, which I always love as a parent.
This playground has lots of picnic tables around, making it a perfect place for a low-key playdate. The swing set is fully equipped with two toddler swings, two standard swings, and a friendship swing (toddler and standard connected).
*There is currently NO restroom at this park*
If you follow the trail just around the bend to the east, you will see a hidden treasure of ‘trees’ that you can climb! My kids love climbing these ten trees and hopping around them! It feels magical because they are so unexpected.
This park is also a great place to play in the creek. While you cannot see the creek from the playground, there are several deer trails in the trees north of the playground that follow the creek. We had to search along the creek a bit to find an easily accessible entrance, but when we found one, the kids had a blast!
