Give us a little background of your family and personal life! How many kids do you have? Have you lived in Des Moines all your life? Etc.

My husband Jeremy and I have been married for 18 years. We have three children Colton 25, Mateo 16 and Marlee 9. Both Jeremy and I were raised on the Southside of Des Moines and still live there. We love sports, camping and traveling. We’re always on the go and wouldn’t have it any other way. We love Des Moines and are always looking at ways to support our community and other businesses. 2. What is your business, and what do you do? Trixies Salon and we do damn good hair!!

Why did you become a small business owner?

I come from a long line of hairdressers. It’s in my blood. Owning your own business is one of the scariest and rewarding things you can do in your life. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Where is your favorite place to take your children to play indoors?

Sky Zone

Where is your favorite place to take your children to play outdoors?

We do a lot of camping as a family so that is our favorite activity. There are many cool campgrounds in Iowa.

Parent’s day/night out. Describe your perfect parent only day/night out in Des Moines.

Movie and a dinner. We love trying out new places to eat.

What are some tips on juggling parenthood, working, and personal life?

I don’t believe in balance. I believe that we choose what is the most important thing going on in our lives at that moment. Sometimes its the kids, husband, work, church, etc. Also, don’t beat yourself up. We’re all trying to raise good humans. Some days we feel like super parents and some days we’ve given our kids Doritos for breakfast.

What is your number one parenting tip?

Don’t compare yourself to other parents and don’t ever say, “My child won’t do that”. It’ll come back and bite you in the ass every time. xoxo.
