Des Moines Parent Spotlight: Andrea Engh
Andrea Engh is the local mama and designer behind all the adorable leather, drop earrings in central Iowa. I first became friends with Andrea years ago in a moms group and have enjoyed crossing paths throughout our parenting journey. She is also a fantastic photographer too! Learn more about Andrea and her family, her two businesses and more below.
Give us a little background of your family and personal life! How many kids do you have? Have you lived in Des Moines all your life?
I’ve been married for 12 years in June, to the best man I know, Jeff! We met at ISU, but actually attended the same high school! We have two wonderful kids! Ethen (7) who loves any and all sports and is not looking forward to school being out for summer! Evie (5) who loves being fancy, swimming and is looking forward to school being out for summer! We live in Grimes and love it!
What is your business, and what do you do?
I own Lemon Drop Leather Shop. I have been making jewelry most of my life and started making leather jewelry in 2016! My degree is in Fine Arts and while attending ISU, I Apprenticed with a local jeweler. I mostly work while my kids are in school. My youngest has been on half days, not sure what I’ll be able to accomplish next year when she starts full-time school!
Why did you become a small business owner?
I actually own two small businesses. Lemon Drop Leather Shop and Andrea Engh Photography. Though, my photography has taken a backseat since Lemon Drop has taken off. I started both businesses to follow my passion, as something fun for me to do and to make quality & affordable jewelry/photos.
Where is your favorite place to take your children to play indoors?
We love our gym- Lifetime. They have fun classes for the kids, both indoor and outdoor pool, great yoga classes for me and my husband lifts weights before work.
Where is your favorite place to take your children to play outdoors?
One thing we try and do once a year is go to Valle Dive-In, in Newton.

Anything my husband plans, haha!
What are some tips on juggling parenthood, working, and personal life?
Give your attention to what you need to focus on! Make sure to squeeze in some ‘me’ time! A night out with girlfriends is good for the soul.
What is your number one parenting tip?
Listen to your gut.
