Where to Eat for Date Night in Des Moines
It doesn’t happen too often, but every once in a while my wife and I get a chance to have a nice dinner out without the kids. And when that time comes, we’re not looking at our kid-friendly list of restaurants. Instead, we check out our “thank God we get an evening to ourselves” restaurant list.

Biaggi’s – A casual Italian restaurant offering an extensive selection of house-made and imported pastas, soups, salads, pizza, seafood, steaks and desserts. A gluten-free menu is available!
Bubba – For southern comfort food in a cozy atmosphere, Bubba is the place to go. Portions are huge so you’ll have plenty for leftovers!
Centro – The urban eatery is one of our favorite downtown Des Moines restaurants. It specializes in delicious, Italian-inspired food featuring fresh ingredients and masterful preparation by Chef George Formaro. The Wood-Grilled Salmon is excellent!
Django – Django is a comfortable, brasserie-style restaurant offering everything you love about French cuisine without the attitude. Django features classic French dishes such as Steak Frites and Duck Confit, as well as fresh salads and juicy hamburgers made with fresh-ground beef. Plus they make some great drinks!
Proudfoot & Bird – The eclectic menu includes handmade pasta, seafood, poultry, and prime-cut beef – all locally sourced and fresh. Pair your meal with an award-winning list of wine selections. Excellent choice for fine dining in Des Moines!
Tursi’s Latin King – For over 60 years Tursi’s Latin King Restaurant has stood as a hallmark of quality traditional Italian dining in Des Moines. Considered an “East-side institution,” Tursi’s Latin King delivers an authentic piece of Italy in the heart of the Midwest. The Chicken Spiedini is excellent!
Urban Grill – The Urban Grill offers a friendly, welcoming, neighborhood environment with an upscale polished decor – a perfect date night restaurant in Urbandale. The Urban Grill’s warm and rich decor invites guests to totally relax to enjoy their American cuisine. You have to get the Inside-Out Crab Rangoon for an appetizer!
Wasabi – A modern Des Moines sushi restaurant and lounge for sophisticated customers who will be wowed by their cool surroundings. If you go here you must get sushi and if you need a drink try the Japanese Dragon Punch!
