Des Moines is often referred to as a big city with a small-town feel. One of the perks of living here is the ability to do city and country things without driving too far. Our favorite thing to do this time of year is to get fresh produce from farms around the area. Here are 6 farm fresh produce locations in the Des Moines area.
Hilltop Farms
Address: 22018 T Ave, Dallas Center, IA 50063
Hilltop Farms is located about 15 minutes north of Waukee. They have a farm stand and UPICK options available. The produce is always fresh and ripe. The people are kind and helpful. The zucchini are gigantic. They have wagons to help you haul your produce and a fun old tractor for cute pictures.

Monday – Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday: Closed
Dogpatch Urban Gardens
Address: 5085 Meredith Dr, Des Moines, IA 50310
Dogpatch Urban Gardens is located in a quaint northside neighborhood of Des Moines. With their crops grown right outside their shop (and down the street too). They offer a variety of their own produce along with salad subscriptions and other local products too. Enjoy a trip to their farmstand or order online for delivery. Middlebrook Farm
Address: Cumming Avenue/Highway G14, Cumming, Iowa 50061
Middlebrook Farm is located just south of West Des Moines in Cumming. They have the cutest farm stand with a selection of produce that they grow from other area farms. They accept cash or Venmo. Join them for Fridays on the Farm for live music and food trucks!

Grimes Sweet Corn
Address: 9780 NW 121st St., Granger, Iowa
Grimes Sweet Corn has locations all over the metro including their home farm in Granger. They have a selection of tomatoes, sweet corn, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Remember to bring cash with you!

Picket Fence Creamery
Address: 14583 S Ave, Woodward, IA 50276
Picket Fence Creamery is a dairy, creamery, and store. Their cows live in grass pastures and are given no artificial hormones. They pasteurize and bottle onsite at the farm. Picket Fence Creamery may not offer fresh produce, but their products include delicious ice cream, milk, and butter. They also have products from other local farmers including ground beef, beef sticks, steaks, maple syrup, and more. The owners are friendly and informative and even gave my son a sample of candy before we purchased anything. They are located about 10 minutes north of Grimes off Highway 141.

Blue Ribbon Gardens
Address: Corner of 50th and Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, IA
Blue Ribbon Gardens has a farm stand in West Des Moines on the corner of 50th and Grand Avenue. Their produce selection includes sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, free-range eggs, green beans, hot peppers, and more. Stop by on your way to Raccoon River Park!
