Wiese Park in Perry, Iowa
Wiese Park is a treasure found in the small town of Perry, Iowa. The new all-inclusive playground added to their existing traditional playground structure offers many unique elements. My kids loved the main new large climbing structure. The all-inclusive area has multiple music elements and elements for different sensory exploration. The traditional playground structure is next to the all-inclusive area which gives kids lots of room to run back and forth.
Beyond the playground area, Wiese Park offers many amenities for the whole family.
Wiese Park features a nine-hole disc golf course, soccer fields, a horseshoe court, a lighted full-court basketball court, and two sand volleyball courts. The large gazebo on the east side of the park is a beautiful place to host a party. The two miles of lighted, paved trails are a great place for kids to ride their bikes or scooters. The majority of the trails are visible from the playground which is great if one kid wants to ride a bike and one wants to play. The larger trail loop also has a story walk that features children’s books in both English and Spanish.
After you visit Wiese Park in Perry if outside of school hours, be sure to check out the playground next door at Perry Elementary School. My kids were awed by the large playground structure on the front side of the school.
Spend the day in Perry and check out the Forest Park Museum and Arboretum, a free history museum. Then grab some coffee at Perry Perk, 1201 Warford St., or lunch at the Mandarin Cafe at 1117 2nd St.
