The Urbandale Public Library is located at 3520 86th Street Urbandale, Iowa near Johnston-Walker Park and the Urbandale Police Department. They offer programs for adults, teens, and kids. Take a look at their extensive list!

Adults

Adult Coloring; Wednesday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

They supply the colored pencils, pens, and coloring sheets. You supply the creativity!

Active Adults; Thursday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

They provide a wide range of crafts, puzzles, games, and more – all you have to do is show up and choose your activity!

Friday Flicks; Friday at 1 p.m.

Watch a movie from our ever-growing collection of classic films and new releases.  Visit their  events calendar for an updated list of what’s showing at the Library.

Adult Chess; Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Drop in and play some chess!. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your chess set or use one of ours.  

Teens

All teen programs are open to ages 12-17.

Teen WriteUp; Third Monday of the month at 6 p.m.

The perfect group for the aspiring writer! Bring material to share, brainstorm ideas, or just practice your craft. Registration is preferred.

Teen Book Club; Second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

Swing by the Services Desk to pick up a copy of this month’s book, then join for discussion. Registration is preferred.

Teen Advisory Group; Second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

Teen Advisory Group will help with the decisions about the library that affect teens.  They help plan events and activities, and even recommend materials. Let them know what you think by coming to the meeting. Registration is preferred.

Teen Text Line

Teens are encouraged to text “BOOKS” to 760-670-3130 to receive reminders about upcoming programs and special volunteer opportunities for ages 12-17.

Kids

Book Babies; Monday + Tuesday at 9 a.m. & 2nd + 4th Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Bounce, sing, shake, and play with at this “can’t sit still” story time.  Recommended ages 0 to 24 months.

Toddler Time; Monday + Tuesday 10 a.m.

This short-attention span story time is full of music, stories, and rhymes.  Recommended ages 2 to 3 years.

Family Story Time; Tuesday at 7 p.m.; Wednesday at 9:30 & 10:15 a.m.; 2nd + 4th Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Fun and interactive stories to keep the whole family entertained and engaged.  Pajamas are welcome at their evening session! Recommended ages 4 years and older.

STEAM Station; Last Monday of the month at 6 p.m.

Each month discover a different topic through self-guided hands-on activities and experiments perfect for 2- to 7-year-old children and their grown-ups! Registration required.

Minecraft; Monday 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills. No registration required.

After-School Art; Third Friday of the month at 4 p.m.

Create art together in a 30-minute workshop that will unleash the inner artist in your child!  Registration preferred. Recommended for ages 5-11.   

LEGO Club; Last Friday of the month at 4 p.m.

Join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique designs. LEGO’s and fun provided. Registration not required. Recommended for ages 5 years and older.

The Urbandale Public Library also offers additional special programming each month.  For more information, visit their event calendar here.  However, the Library is about more than just events! Their 56,000 square-foot building houses a variety of print and non-print materials (DVDs, video games, CDs, audiobooks – even cake pans!) for research and entertainment. Besides its vast collection, the Library is also a key resource for groups, small businesses, and individuals who need access to computers, photocopiers, meeting rooms, and study areas.  In addition, the Library offers a range of special services, including home bound delivery and test proctoring.  For more information on all the Urbandale Public Library has to offer, visit their site here
