How to Stylishly Layer Your Kids for Fall

Fall and changing weather is coming soon but it doesn’t have to mean your kids need a whole new wardrobe. You can easily transition your child’s favorite pieces into the new season with a couple of simple tweaks and fun layers. I am sharing my favorite ways to stylishly layer your kids for fall.

Favorite graphic tee = fave fall tee (with a comfy long-sleeve shirt underneath (add a pattern or striped long sleeve tee to mix it up) or layer a solid hoodie or denim button-down over the top to maximize the style options. I steer clear of buying long sleeve tees and go with the layering option as often as I can.

Favorite summer dress or skirt = fave fall dress (with a pair of leggings, tights and a cardi or denim jacket). Cardigans are life in the fall and I love to have my daughter, Charlie, wear them over her dresses to maximize their shelf life. I also have her wear them over her dance clothing since she has classes every weeknight. Just an easy stylish option before winter weather is here.

Now for the best part – mix in the fall trends! What is “in” is always fun but my rule is I must coordinate them with the classics. Here are some fashion essentials I suggest for your kiddo’s fall wardrobe:

Sporty cool

This fall there are tons of options to get that retro sporty vibe and the bonus is you can shop in your school colors and use these pieces for spirit days, sporting events or just having school spirit in general.

Fun sneakers

A pair of great shoes can really pull together an outfit – fashion 101 right?! Charlie wears cute pink metallic sneakers almost daily to school – for recess and a kid who has a mom who can’t keep track of PE days – it just makes sense and they look cute with pants, skirts, dresses – anything. I like to go with bold bright colors, sequins, and metallics (which coordinate with literally everything).

Denim

A timeless classic for fall. Jean jackets are gender-neutral – all three of my kids wear them and the boys will wear soft pull on denim joggers which are a staple for school.

Pop of Leopard

Or … pop of amazing? I love leopard almost as much as I love camo. One of the most popular color trends right now is pairing rust with blush but think about throwing in some leopard with it and boom – instant cool. Accessorize with a leopard skirt, shoe, bow or belt to take their fall looks to the next level.

Hair clips

Who is here for the clip trend?! Wispies in your face no more. Mix it up, add texture and glitter and the best part … you can NOT have too many.

Miles: denim joggers, tee, hoodie, similar shoes

Charlie: skirt, tee, similar denim jacket, shoes, dance leotard, leg warmers, cardigan, hair clips, leopard pullover

Caleb: joggers, tee, denim shirt, shoes
