The Des Moines Botanical Garden is the place to visit at any time of the year. Cold outside? Too hot? Rainy? Enjoy the outdoors, indoors at the Des Moines Botanical Garden.

Winter Fun

The Botanical Garden is open daily 10 am – 5 pm

Enjoy lunch at the Trellis Cafe Tuesday – Sunday 11 am – 2 pm

Adults $8; Seniors $7; Student (4-17) $6; Children 3 and under FREE!

Pop Up Education Stations and Studios


January 7th – March 25th 

Free with regular admission and registration is not required. 

Join us on the first and fourth Saturday of each month for these brand new educational opportunities! Stop by on the first Saturday of the month and visit the Pop-Up Education Station where Botanical Garden staff and volunteers will give demonstrations and answer questions on unique botanical topics. For a hands on experience, we invite you to join us on the fourth Saturday of the month to create a botanically inspired craft. Both of these programs are held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Children 1-17 are $3; regular admission rates apply for adults and seniors. Members free. 

Join us on Fridays during three seasonal sessions for this fun, interactive story time that explores themes of nature and plants. During each program participants will enjoy stories and an activity based on the week’s theme. Story Sprouts is offered 10:30-11:00 a.m. and is geared towards children ages 2-5.  See the detailed schedule of books and activities here.

There will be all sorts of fun, hands-on activities going on at The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden this Spring Break!

Drop-In Activities – March 14 – 17 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) 

This year’s theme is Flower Power! Celebrate the beauty and diversity of flowers through a range of creative crafts, games and demonstrations.

Free with admission.

Family Workshops (Designed for youth ages 5-17 to come with an adult.)

Garden Green Thumbs March 14, 10:30 a.m. – noon

Pollinator Houses March 15, 10:30 a.m. – noon

Garden Pizza Party March 16, 10:30 a.m. – noon

Air Plant Wreaths March 17, 10:30 a.m. – noon

Members – Youth/Adult Pair – $10.50, Additional Youth- $7.50
Nonmembers – Youth/Adult Pair – $18, Additional Youth – $10
