Winter Break Art Workshops for the Kiddos


Looking for something for your child to do over Winter break?  Sign them up for a workshop at the Des Moines Art Center and let them explore their love of art and literature.

About the Workshops:

Get lost in your favorite children’s book and join us in the studio for these exciting camps during winter break.   Morning and afternoon workshops are available for Pre-K–Kindergarten |Grades 1– 3 | Grades 4– 6.

$18 ($15) per session / Material fee $5 | Supervised lunchtime is available for $5 per day; students must bring their own lunch.

Workshops Available:

Jumanji Junk Animals

Turn the studio into a jungle and build wild animals from recycled materials; inspired by the fantastical tale, Jumanji by Chris van Allsburg.

Monday, December 29 / 9:30 –11:30 am

Charlie and the Art Factory

Invent, draw, and collage a whimsical factory like in Roald Dahl’s classic story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Monday, December 29 / 12:30 – 2:30 pm

Where the Wild Things Art

Create zany Wild Things masks and puppets inspired by Maurice Sendak’s classic characters in Where the Wild Things Are.

Tuesday, December 30 / 9:30 –11:30 am

Illustration Tuesday

Learn how to tell a story using nothing but a drawing. Students will learn about the whimsical book Tuesday by David Wiesner.

Tuesday, December 30 / 12:30 – 2:30 pm
