Using Credit Cards to Your Advantage

Most people see credit cards as evil.  I don’t.  I see them as a financial tool that can be great to have for emergencies and to make some money as well.  Yes, you read that right; you can make some extra money with a credit card.  How is this possible?  By taking advantage of cash back and reward programs offered by most credit card companies.  By responsibly using these programs I earned over $600 this past year.  And as a parent who doesn’t need a little extra cash to have on hand?  So how can you get some cash too?  Here’s how:

  1.  Sign up for a credit card that has a cash back rewards program (i.e. Chase Freedom Card or Capital One Cash Reward Card).  Make sure you choose one with no annual fee.
  2. Now pay everything you can with that one card for the month. For example here is what I put on my card every month: gas, groceries, cell phone, satellite, internet, Netflix, Dance Classes, Gymnastics classes and anything else that lets me pay using a credit card.
  3. Pay off your entire bill at the end of the month.  By paying it off every month you won’t be getting charged any interest or financial charges from the credit card company.
  4. Sit back and watch the rewards cash come in.

It’s that easy.  Just have to be responsible and pay that bill off at the end of the month.
