The Waukee Public Library

There is a lot of fun to be had at the Waukee Public Library. The Waukee Public Library offers much more than books. Take a look at all the fun programs and events below!

Adults

Books On Tap; Third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.

Meet at Mickey’s Irish Pub (50 S.E. Laurel Street) at 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. Come for food, drinks, and a discussion of each month’s book. Copies of the discussion book may be obtained at the library circulation desk or at Mickey’s during the meeting, while supplies last.

Afternoon Book Club; Third Tuesday of every month at 2:30 p.m.

Meet at the library at 2:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month for a discussion of each month’s book. Copies of the discussion book may be picked up at the library’s front desk, while supplies last.

Movie Matinee; Second Thursday of every month at 10 a.m.

We will be showing everything from major blockbusters to classics. All movies are free and popcorn and lemonade are available. Movies start at 10:00 a.m. No registration is required.

Teens

Teen programs are every Wednesday after school, 1:30-3:30 on early outs and 3:30-4:30 on regular dismissal, for youth in grades 6-12.

Teen Advisory Board; Monday’s 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. for 7-12 graders

Students on the Teen Advisory Board develop leadership skills and meet weekly to help plan teen programs, sign up for volunteer opportunities, and give input regarding the teen area of the library and suggest teen books to be purchased by the library. Kids

Move it Mondays; Monday’s at 6 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Bring your family with kids of all ages to sing, dance and play with instruments to a wide variety of music. You will have so much fun, you won’t even notice you are building important early learning skills! Pajamas are welcome, and we will always end with a slower song to get ready for bedtime. No registration required.

** Beginning in January Move it Mondays will be held at 6:15 p.m. only 

Toddler Time; Tuesday’s at 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Enjoy 20 minutes of short stories, songs and lots of movement, followed by playtime to build early literacy skills. Recommended for 18 mo.-3 year old. All storytime attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited for the safety of the children.

Preschool Storytime; Tuesday’s at 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 2 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday’s 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Enjoy 30 minutes of stories, songs and rhymes, followed by a simple craft. For children who can sit for longer stories to develop school readiness. All storytime attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited for the safety of the children

Books & Babies; Monday’s at 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday’s at 11 to 11:30 a.m.

For infants (0-17 mo.) and caregivers. 15 minutes of songs, rhymes and books, followed by playtime to build early literacy skills. All storytime attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited for the safety of the children.

Toddler Time; Tuesday’s at 11 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday’s 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Enjoy 20 minutes of short stories, songs and lots of movement, followed by playtime to build early literacy skills. Recommended for 18 mo.-3 year old. All storytime attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited for the safety of the children.

DIY Storytime; Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

Families are encouraged to drop-in anytime to read some special stories and complete an activity specially selected by our Youth Services Staff.

Sensory Playtime; First Friday of the month 10 to 11 a.m. 

Stay as little or as long as you wish to explore different interactive sensory stations each month with your child. Recommended for ages 3 years and up, due to choking hazards.

Songs & Stories; Second Saturday of the month 9:30 a.m. 

Families with children ages 0-5 are invited to enjoy 20-25 minutes of fun songs and stories with one of our youth services librarians. No registration required.

Brick Builders; Second Saturday of the month 10 to 11:30 a.m. 

Lego fans are welcome to join teen volunteers to play with the library’s LEGO’s and complete optional engineering challenges. You can also make a Lego comic strip on our iPads. No registration required.

Keep an eye on their event calendar. They often add fun events such as crafts for the holidays and more!
