The Sneaky Chef Invades Fareway Stores + Giveaway

I was recently given the chance to sample some of the new Sneaky Chef Products available at Central Iowa Fareway stores.  Since I was already familiar with the Sneaky Chef (I own one of her cook books), I was excited to test out her new product line and see what it was all about.

The new line of Sneaky Chef products includes 3 different pasta sauces, pasta, and No-Nut Butter.  Of course in testing these products out the real judges would be my picky 3 and 5 year olds.  If they gave the thumbs up to them then I really knew the Sneaky Chef was on to something great.

The first items we tried were the spaghetti noodles with the “Smooth Red” pasta sauce.  Sauce smelled good, looked good, but would it taste good?  Would those 8 “hidden” vegetables be detected by the kiddos?  The answer…… No.  They loved it.  My 5 year old daughter said it was the best pasta I had ever made!    I guess I wouldn’t go that far myself, but I did enjoy the pasta sauce.  The pasta noodles tasted just like any other pasta noodle.  My only complaint on those would be that the box says that they cook up white, but my cooked noodles were still a slight shade of brown, which may throw some kids into a picky fit!  Plus it would be nice if they had a gluten free version of the noodles.

A couple of days later we paired the “Cheesy” pasta sauce with a different brand of gluten free elbow noodles (my wife is staying away from the gluten).  We added some Turkey meatballs to the mix and both the kids gobbled it up.  The sauce was pretty darn good.

PASTA SAUCE FEATURES:

  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No artificial colors or flavors
  • No MSG
  • No icky green flecks
  • Gluten free
  • Sweetened by nature
  • More than a full serving of veggies in every 1/2 cup of sauce

Next thing to try out was the No-Nut Butter.  I have to admit I was a little hesitant to try this because it was made from Golden Peas.  I’m not a huge fan of peas and the thought of peas as a spread didn’t make me in a hurry to test it out.  But, I finally gave in and tried it on some crackers.  The result…… Good.  It actually had the same texture and taste of peanut butter.  So I decided to give the kids a try.  The No-Nut Butter comes in a regular jar and also as “On the Go” little packs.  The kids wanted to try the little “On the Go” packs, because they were tiny and cute (according to my daughter).  I didn’t bother to tell them that it wasn’t actually peanut butter, so it was a true test to see if the Sneaky Chef could fool them.  Score one for the Sneaky Chef!  Both kids dipped slices of apples in the No-Nut Butter and really enjoyed it.  My daughter normally doesn’t even really eat regular peanut butter, but she keeps asking for the apple and No-Nut butter snack each night.  Personally, I will stick with my normal peanut butter, but this makes a great option for bringing snacks to school and church groups where you have to worry about food allergies in other kids.

NO-NUT BUTTER FEATURES:

  • 100% peanut and tree nut-free
  • Produced in a nut-free facility
  • Great for nut-free schools
  • Soy free
  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No hydrogenated oils
  • No artificial colors or flavors
  • Gluten free
  • BPA free jar

My overall opinion of Sneaky Chef products:  None of the products tasted bad.  The “Smooth Red” pasta sauce stands out as the real winner of the group.  It was great with pasta and as a pizza sauce.  It’s also a good way to get servings of vegetables into your child’s diets.  The No-Nut Butter is a good Peanut Butter alternative for kids with allergies or if you are preparing snacks for large groups of kids.

I have done the sneaking veggies in (adding stuff to spaghetti sauce) or we make it fun with cheese sauce.

  2. Edna Williams says:

I had all but given up!

  3. christina dutra says:

I just tell her that it’s very very important to eat her vegetables. We don’t have a problem with it. I started her off at a very young age. I introduced them to her before I introduced the sweets. So now she’ll just eat them without hesitation.

  4. I sub spaghetti squash instead of noodles in pasta dishes!

  5. We LOVE the no nut butter!! We have nut, wheat, soy, and dairy allergies in our house. This is the first time we have been able to have any sort of alternative butter in our house and my son thinks it is amazing! We are on our third jar. I catch my son with the jar and a spoon as often as he can sneak it! We would love to try other products as well.

  6. Dericka Sweepstaking says:

    I have to add cheese.

  7. Birdiebee says:

My grandkids like raw vegetables so I decorate a platter of vegetables into a neat design (skeleton, etc.).

  8. Annabella says:

    Make vegetables into smoothies!

  9. Darlene Lehman says:

I disquise them in other items such as smoothies, popsicles with fruits and veggies combined, and in lasagna.

  10. I offer them on a regular basis so they’re used to seeing them on their plate. The more you offer vegetables, the more they will eat them. I don’t push it, just offer.
