Shop Where Your Heart Is in Downtown DSM
Share the love with local Downtown Des Moines (DSM) businesses this holiday season. By putting your money where your heart is, you’ll be supporting the boutiques, small businesses, and restaurants that makeup Downtown DSM’s neighborhoods. Social distance, mask up, and share the heart during the Historic East Village’s extended holiday hours. Remember, parking is free in Downtown DSM on Sundays along with select parking meters reserved for pickup orders. Check out three must-stop locations below!
1. Historic East Village Shops
Since we’ve already mentioned the Historic East Village’s extended holiday hours, we’ll start here. This Downtown DSM district is perfect for shoppers looking for holiday gift ideas. From women’s apparel to sports and fitness shops to bath and beauty boutiques, the Historic East Village is just the place to find what you didn’t even know you were looking for!

The Holiday Promenade continues this month, too, with events on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the last event being held Wednesday, December 23. Wednesdays will even showcase special deals at participating businesses.
2. Encore Downtown Winter Farmers’ and Makers’ Market
Due to the popular demand of the Downtown Winter Farmers’ and Makers’ Market held in November, the drive-through event is back this month. You can check it out on Saturday, December 12 at the Principal Park parking lot, 1 Line Drive, and support local artists and makers this holiday season. Make sure to check out the list of suppliers on the Online Marketplace prior to the event. You can attend either way, but by ordering ahead of time you’ll ensure you get the products you want.
3. Downtown DSM Neighborhood Restaurants
Each of Downtown DSM’s neighborhoods offers distinct restaurants and bold flavors. In the Gray’s Lake Area, there’s St. Kilda Café and Bakery. In Western Gateway, order online to-go drinks from Horizon Line Coffee. E-gift cards are available, too, at the many locations in Historic Court District, Market District, Historic East Village and Sherman Hill.

Bonus! — Ingersoll Avenue
Ingersoll Avenue has so much to offer, and it’s just a short distance from Downtown DSM. We’ll be highlighting this area of town in an upcoming blog post so keep an eye out for it in the near future.
Downtown Des Moines (DSM) is a growing, vibrant community that offers the energy, sophistication, housing and attractions of a burgeoning city with a brilliant future. It’s also easy to visit with plentiful and affordable street and ramp parking options.
