MyDMPL Con 2019
The Des Moines Central Library will transform into an interactive hub of a family-friendly festival for all fandoms on Sunday, May 5 at the second annual MyDMPL Con. And it’s all FREE.
More than 1,000 people – many in costumes of their favorite superheroes, Disney princesses and film characters – stopped by at the inaugural MyDMPL Con in 2018, and this year’s version will be bigger and better. Here are five – of the many – things you can expect to find:
Costumes, costumes, and more costumes!
In addition to children and families dressed as their favorite TV, film and video game stars, many of your favorite characters will be walking around the library for pictures, hugs, and high-fives. Among those, you will see Wonder Woman and the Iowa League of Heroes, Disney princesses with Little Princess Parties, Paw Patrol puppies, and many more.
Explore the world of Hogwarts!
Attendees will have a chance to explore several rooms dedicated to specific fandoms, including Harry Potter activities. Inside, find out your patronus, create your own remembralls, and even check out DumbleDore’s desk.
Get hands-on with interactive activities!
It’s not just costumes, either. Attendees can jump into their favorite movies or video games with a green screen, watch a Jester Puppets show, learn with IPTV, do science experiments with the Science Center of Iowa, make your own art, and more.
Meet the Luchadores!
Luchadores, the term for Mexican wrestlers, will set up a real wrestling ring outside the library, where they’ll perform and sign autographs for fans. Also outside, find local food trucks like Outside Scoop for refueling.
Play video games!
One entire room inside the library will be geared towards teens and tweens, featuring a chance to play classics video games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Attendees can also learn how to do zombie cosplay, manga crafts, origami and more.
This is just a small dose of everything you’ll find at the second MyDMPL Con. Go to dmpl.org for more information.
