Learning to Find a Technology Balance

I love being a stay at home mom, and having the opportunity to get out and about with my daughter, but sometimes I struggle to be “in the moment.” I have a constant battle with myself whether I should bring my phone to the things I do with my daughter knowing I’ll probably end up on social media while she plays. Because let’s face it after the thousandth “watch me” I just want a little adult interaction, so I slip out my phone and check social media or shoot off a few texts. It’s a bad habit, and something I’m not proud of.

Balance, Motherhood, Technology

Is the answer to leave my phone at home? But what if a cute picture opportunity presents itself? What if I need to call someone or I need to add something to my schedule? Those things occasionally happen, but the truth is that more times than not when I pull out my phone it’s to check social media. I rarely do the things I claim I’m bringing my phone for.

Does it have to be all or none? Do I need to feel guilty? No. Like with everything in life, I need to find a balance. I will spend the majority of my day soaking up the time I get to spend with my daughter and sometimes, I will allow myself a few minutes to check in with the world and then I’ll get right back to watching for the thousandth and first time.
