Central Iowa libraries and communities host a lot of fun activities and crafts for you and your kiddos! Check out this great list! It’s early and I may be missing your event and activity! Lil Elf Workshops

Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids

November 25th & November 26th 

10 am – 11:15 am 

Snowflake the Elf will be at Shear Madness Haircuts to help celebrate with kids! Kids 8 and under are invited to do crafts, games, songs, snacks, photos. Peppermint the Reindeer will also make an appearance! $25 per child. Sign-up here!

Art School: Elf Art Workshop

This is the 3rd annual Art School: Elf Art Workshop! There will be all new projects and art stations for your little elves to rotate through at every level. The masterpieces will be perfect for the holidays, you will want to display at home! Must register! Check here.


Sewing School: Holiday Sewing Workshop

Christmas Carnival

Waukee Library 

December 3rd 

10 am – 12 pm 

Drop-in to the Waukee Library and celebrate the holiday season! This will be the library’s 11th annual Festival of Trees and sweet treats! Kids can take a picture with Santa and make some crafts and join in some reindeer games.

Holiday Card Workshop for Kids

West Des Moines Library

Make a card for your friends and family at the West Des Moines Library. For ages 5-12. Registration required.

Make-and-Take Craft Night

Clive Library 

December 8th 

6 pm – 6:45 pm

Drop in to the Clive Library for a make-and-take craft! Create something great just in time for the holidays.

Pressed Flower Holiday Cards

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden 

December 10th 

1 pm – 3 pm 

This program is designed for children ages 12 to 17 years old. Learn different ways to preserve flower and then create a holiday card. $10 per child. Must register here!

Holiday Art in the Park

Lions Park Shelter House, Urbandale 

December 12th 

6 pm – 7 pm 

Join friends and make a holiday themed craft. $8 fee and must register by December 5th through the Urbandale Parks and Recreation.

Holiday Crafts and Cocoa 

Lakeside Center, Ankeny 

December 12th

Join the Ankeny Parks and Recreation for a night jam packed with crafts, cocoa and fun! Kids in kindergarten through 5th grade will be able to complete a variety of holiday-themed crafts at their own pace to celebrate the holiday. Fee is $15 for residents and $18 for non-residents.

The Polar Express

West Des Moines Library 

December 14th 

3:45 pm – 4:30 pm

Climb aboard the Polar Express and depart for an arctic adventure. Entertainment en route to our destination to include the story, refreshments, and more! For ages 5-12. Registration required.

Gingerbread Story Time and Craft 

Clive Library 

December 15th 

6 pm – 6:45 pm 

Enjoy gingerbread stories, crafts and games. Rudolph won’t miss out on these reindeer games! Registration required through the Clive Library.

Christmas Craft Day

Indianola Library 

December 21st 

10:30 am – 11:30 am 

Make and decorate an upcycled Christmas tree. All ages are welcome! Children 6 years and under must be with an adult.




Erin Huiatt

Erin is a reliable resource and stepping stone for women and families to find support and make connections within our community. She wants families to feel confident to reach out and ask for help and advice to get pointed in the right direction. She enjoys traveling and exploring with her two children in tow!
