Holiday Shows & Concerts in Central Iowa 2017

The Holiday season is a time to see special shows and concerts. Whether it be a date night or a family affair, there is a show and/or concert for everyone this season. Check out our list below. All of these show dates are located on our event calendar.

Celebrate the holiday season in style with International Steinway Artist, Jim McDonough, joined by his 14-piece professional orchestra and a cast of sensational singers and dancers performing your favorite Christmas music and other all-time favorites. Proceeds benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.

A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live on Stage

Everyone’s favorite holiday classic comes to life in the all-­‐new touring production A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS LIVE ON STAGE! Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and the whole Peanuts gang as they put on their own Christmas play and ultimately discover the true meaning of the season. A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS LIVE ON STAGE is a present the whole family can enjoy!

Lorie Line & Her Pop Chamber Orchestra: King of Kings

Lorie Line returns and brings her traditional Christmas show, which is perfect for the family! KING OF KINGS, will celebrate the magnificent story and the birth of our Savior.

Lorie will be bringing her world-class Pop Chamber Orchestra and a featured guest vocalist. And Santa always shows up at a Lorie Line show, so bring the kids (ages 4 and up) as they will all be invited to the stage to be in The Twelve Days Of Christmas.

In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”

Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

St. Ambrose Cathedral

The one you come back for, year after year…join us at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at St. Ambrose Cathedral for an inspiring program of great works and seasonal favorites, all in celebration of the Christmas spirit. Together with chamber orchestra, piano, and soloists, the Des Moines Choral Society will fill the cathedral with the joy of the season!

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters. You will be visually delighted by their resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Ballet Des Moines is central Iowa’s only resident professional ballet company. Under the artistic direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and providing the highest level of dance education in the region.

Jewel’s Handmade Holiday Tour

Grammy-nominated songwriter and New York Times’ bestselling author and poet JEWEL will return to the road this Holiday season for a one of a kind tour, performing holiday classics, holiday originals and classic Jewel songs alongside Special Guests, her father and brothers, Atz, Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher.

Tonic Sol-fa is a ground-breaking a cappella ensemble from Minnesota, in constant development since their formation two decades ago. TSF stands as one of the leading forces in the world of vocal music with Emmy Award winning arrangements and multi-million selling compositions.

Celebrate the holiday season at this popular show. The guys have arranged a fantastic a cappella show, fun for any age!


Des Moines Civic Center

Iowa Dance Theatre presents The Nutcracker Ballet. Experience the adventures of a girl named Clara as she journeys to a distant land where a prince battles mischievous mice, flowers waltz and a Sugar Plum Fairy delights children of every age.

Iowa Dance Theatre has produced the ballet at the Des Moines Civic Center since 1997. The Nutcracker is choreographed and directed by a team of dance professionals from Central Iowa. Set to the timeless music of Tchiavosky, Iowa Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet is a great holiday experience for the whole family.
