Holiday Shows & Concerts 2015

The Holiday season is a time to see special shows and concerts. Whether it be a date night or a family affair, there is a show and/or concert for everyone this season! Check out our list below! If I am missing something, e-mail me! All of these show dates are located on our Event Calendar!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

When eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts restores an old racing car, he and his children, Jeremy and Jemima, soon discover it has magical properties. Trouble occurs when the child-hating Baron Bomburst tries to capture the car for himself. Take a fantastic musical adventure with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the family holiday classic that Des Moines Community Playhouse audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious.”

The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas Show

The newest inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Oak Ridge Boys kick off this huge show with over 40 years of award-winning music. The hits are endless, but they will be packed in! Including “Elvira” and “Bobbie Sue,” along with many other favorites!

Then, after a short intermission, the stage is transformed, and it’s Christmas! The trees are decorated, the snow is falling, and The Oak Ridge Boys treat you to Christmas favorites as only they can. From rollicking Santa songs to heartfelt standards, this show is a family favorite!

Lorie Line: Christmas in The City 2015 Holiday Tour

Pianist Lorie Line takes the stage once again for her 26th year of touring. This year’s show is called CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY, and it promises to be a fun-filled, fashion-forward, magical night of Christmas music in the big city. Ms. Line will be bringing along her cast of characters, including Santa, her young and talented Fab Five, and a special featured vocalist. And, don’t forget to BE THERE WITH BELLS ON!

The performance that continually sells out is returning to the Iowa Governor’s Mansion. Presented by the award winning Iowa Shakespeare Experience and written exclusively for Terrace Hill, the performance moves throughout the mansion’s parlors, halls, and bed chambers, as the story unfolds in a truly “up close and personal” manner.

This is a presentation of Charles Dickens’ beloved story of Tiny Tim and Ebenezer Scrooge as you’ve never seen it before! Each performance will include festive desserts and refreshments during intermission.

The holiday tradition continues!

Christmas with the Choral Society

St. Ambrose Cathedral 

December 12th 

The one you come back for, year after year…join us on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at St. Ambrose Cathedral for an inspiring program of great works and seasonal favorites, all in celebration of the Christmas spirit. Together with chamber orchestra, piano, organ, and soloists, the Des Moines Choral Society will fill the cathedral with the joy of the season!

The Nutcracker

This year, in The Nutcracker cast, we have over 250 dancers from approximately 30 dance studios from throughout central Iowa. This year’s show is dedicated to our founding director, Mary Joyce. There will be a Sugar Plum Tea on Saturday, December 12th at 12:30 p.m. Tickets to the tea are $15 and can be purchased at the Des Moines Civic Center Ticket Office.

Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, The Blenders are proud to call Minneapolis, MN their home. They have spent over 25 years touring the U.S. with their unique style of vocal, harmony-based music. In 2014, The Blenders celebrated their 25th Anniversary adding a 6-song EP to their collection entitled simply, 25. In 2015, after over two and a half decades of touring and recording, The Blenders were inducted into The Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. Often described as “one of America’s best-kept vocal secrets,” The Blenders continue to record and tour the country, delighting their audiences with their signature vocal sound.

This is the perfect dose of holiday spirit without all the trudging through cold, snow, and ice! Help us spread the good cheer to our neighbors at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. We’ll sing and ring our way through the halls as we share familiar and family-favorite carols and songs. We promise you’ll leave with a smile on your face and a full and happy heart. This is event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome and encouraged to join us for the fun!

Erin is a reliable resource and stepping stone for women and families to find support and make connections within our community. She wants families to feel confident to reach out and ask for help and advice to get pointed in the right direction. She enjoys traveling and exploring with her two children in tow!
