It’s been going so long, you often find three generations of family members showing up to go through it together. How’s that for family bonding?

Sleepy Hollow offers about a dozen attractions (including at least five haunted houses/walks), so consider it an all-night scary theme park rather than just a haunted house. For the bravest of the brave, this year you will be able to have the opportunity to go through their Freakshow haunt and have the “no touching” rule ignored. They are also adding a new high-tech zombie laser tag attraction called ToxiCity.

Tormented Souls Haunt

After several years on hiatus, Madrid’s most intense scream park returns with a haunted house and the area’s original zombie paintball trailer ride. The scariest part? No one knows where it is! You have to leave your car in a city park and ride their “terror bus” to the actual haunt location somewhere deep in the woods. Pleasant dreams!

This haunted walk is a fundraiser for Baxter Fun Days. It is notable for being one of the longest and largest haunted walks around (nearly a mile long). And, at $10, it’s the best value of “screams per dollar” around. Just wear good walking shoes and hydrate before you go. There’s no chicken exit in this one …

Adventureland Inn’s Haunted Hotel

Location: 3200 Adventureland Dr, Altoona IA 50009

Dates/Times: Oct 27, 2018. 7 pm to Midnight.

Short Desc: 21+ event with entertainment and a haunted attraction

Website: www.adventurelandresort.com

NEW for 2018! Billed as “The Worst Sleep You’ll Ever Pay For,” Adventureland enters the Halloween market with a rather unique offering. First, it is 21 and older only. Second, while it will contain a “haunted attraction,” it is mostly a night of entertainment at Adventureland Inn. It will feature Gimikk (9 pm to Midnight), Dueling Pianos (8 pm to Midnight), and Brad Seidenfeld and Tony Bohnekamp (7 pm to 9 pm). There is also “epic event entertainment” including Insphyre (a fire-based performance). The $200 hotel room packages include access to the courtyard and pools without kids (try that any other time of year!), a Halloween dinner buffet, costume contest with prizes (including an Adventureland season pass), a $5 credit at the Adventure Zone Arcade, and breakfast at Spectator’s Sports Bar and Grill. At $350, you have all of that, plus you get to stay in one of only six themed rooms. At $500, you can stay in one of only four super haunted rooms where you have to sign a waiver and they try to scare the heck out of you… Let the games begin!
