Friday Funday: Interactive Theatre 2016-17

Now that the kids are back in school, I bet you are wondering “what fun things can I get the tots interested in?”

Interactive Theatre

The Des Moines Community Playhouse offers a fun program for children ages 4 to 6 years old called the Interactive Theatre. This is a perfect activity for preschools, child care centers, homeschoolers, kindergarten classes and families, and more!

Each month the kids will dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and costume pieces and props they find in the Magic Trunk. The children will learn a special Clubhouse pledge, secret handshake, and will have to listen for the word of the day!

There are three different time slots available each month

  • 9:30 am
  • 10:45 am
  • 1:30 pm

The first interactive theater is Friday, October 7th! Check out all the dates and stories for each month, below!

Chicken Little

October 7th, 2016

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Join Chicken Little, Henny Penny, Turkey Lurkey, and the clever Foxy Loxy in this familiar tale about jumping to conclusions and using your noggin.

Red Riding Hood

November 11th, 2016

Little Red Riding Hood is taking food and flowers to her poor, sick granny at her cottage in the forest. You can bet that the big bad wolf isn’t far behind. Will Little Red listen to her mother and stay on the path?

Hansel and Gretel

December 9th, 2016

Hansel and Gretel are lost in the woods, looking for a Christmas tree to decorate their tiny house, when they come upon a delicious candy cottage. They just want to taste a little bit and go home, but Ginger the silly witch has other ideas.

Puss in Boots

January 13th, 2017

One extremely clever kitty with some fantastic footwear uses his brains to outwit a king and an ogre. It’s all in an effort to help his simple master win the beautiful princess’s hand in marriage.

The Mitten

February 10th, 2017

In this Clubhouse at the Playhouse favorite, a young child drops his mitten in the snow and does not realize it is missing. As woodland creatures seek warmth inside the mitten, it magically grows and grows!

The Ugly Duckling

March 3rd, 2017

The ugly duckling doesn’t look like the rest of the farmyard animals. When he leaves the nest to find out where he belongs, he meets some very “interesting” characters along the way.

Stone Soup

April 7th, 2017

The selfish villagers don’t want to share any of their food. Then two travelers (and a stone!) show up with a recipe for sharing soup.

May 12th, 2017

What do you get when you take a pumpkin, a pair of glass slippers, and a not-so-nice stepmother and stepsisters? Then, throw in a silly fairy godmother? A magical tale that ends in “happily ever after” of course!

Make sure you check out our event calendar! All of these dates and times are included!
